Fans of sci-fi 4X gaming are well catered for in terms of both volume and quality. Yet among the hallmarks of the genre is a certain level of complexity and obfuscation. Stuff you just leave for the computer to keep track of, or work out for you. Sometimes, maybe, players have a yearning for something a bit more transparent, a little more comprehensible. A game where you can see the workings, like a tabletop board game. If that sounds like you, you're the target audience for Falling Stars: War of Empires.

Everyone loves a little Warhammer now and then and, luckily, the App Store is chocked full of the stuff. This weekend, Games Workshop is having Warhammer Fest over in the UK and their also having something called Digital Assault on the App Store. What that means for you, dear reader, is that just about every Warhammer and Games Workshop title that's out there is on sale from 50-70% off. Want Warhammer: Armageddon? It's only $10 now instead of $20. How's about one of our favorites, Warhammer Quest? You can nab it now for only $1. Yep, a buck.

solitairica ss001
Article

We first heard of Solitairica way back in September of last year and it instantly became a game to watch for. After all, it's a roguelike/dungeon-crawler that uses a solitaire card game as its base mechanism. Sound like another game I kind of like to anyone else? Also, it's being developed by Righteous Hammer Games, a development house made up of ex-PopCap devs. If PopCap devs know anything, it's how to make an addictive game. I heard from Righteous Hammer's Creative Director, Clint Jorgenson, today with some news about Solitairica, mainly that it's coming to PC on May 31st and will be arriving on iOS this Fall.

Everyone loves to play the bad guy now and then, which probably explains the popularity of all the hidden-role/traitor style board games on the market. From Shadows Over Camelot that let you play as a minion of Mordred undermining the work of the Knights of the Round Table, to Battlestar Galactica in which Cylons stay hidden amongst the remnants of humanity, always looking for a way to subtly launch one of them out the airlock, games in which one or more players are actively trying to screw over the other players are awesome. Yesterday, a digital hidden-role game joined the fray as Who Lurks made its way to both iOS and Android devices.

Back in 2005 Fantasy Flight released Descent, a one vs. all dungeon crawler that tried, and succeeded, in feeling like a true RPG in a box. Seven years after that, they rebooted the game with Descent 2.0 and it garnered even more love than the first edition. Tomorrow, Descent 2.0 gets even better when Fantasy Flight releases their long-awaited companion app for the game.

A while back there was some talk about Rodeo Games, developers of gems such as Warhammer Quest and Deathwatch: Tyranid Invasion, going the way of the dodo. We were able to speak with Ben Murch of Rodeo at the time and the picture was actually a little more complicated than that, but it sounded like Rodeo was simply going through a rough patch and would, hopefully, get back on its feet one day. Today's news from Ben muddies the waters a bit more. Turns out that Ben Murch has started a new development house called Perchang. Not only that, but their first game is well underway and should be released later this month or in early June.

Talisman Horus Heresy ss001

Last week we posted an update about an upcoming expansion for the venerable Talisman: Digital Edition from Nomad Games. That expansion is Nether Realms and while it had been released for Android and Steam, it hadn't yet made its way to iOS. That changed today when the update containing the Nether Realms made its way to the App Store. In bigger news, however, the long-awaited Talisman spin-off, Talisman: The Horus Heresy has also made its way to the App Store and is available on iOS Universal for the first time.

I didn't realize it was going to be Good News Monday when I woke up this morning. In fact, my youngest was so whiny about having to go to school today we were ten minutes late getting out the door. Good days generally don't happen when they start with my blood pressure that high. After getting back home, however, there was Tinytouchtales news to write about and one of the best reviews to ever grace the pages of Pocket Tactics ready for editing, so it was all good. The cherry on the sundae was a note from the Handelabra guys letting me know that the Kickstarter they began nearly 30 days ago hit their funding goal and Season 2 of Sentinels is coming.

Well, this was a happy Monday morning surprise! Over the weekend, Tinytouchtales released actual gameplay footage of their upcoming title, Card Thief. Big deal, you might say, but this is Tinytouchtales and their last game was the best game of 2015. Card Thief looks poised to challenge for this year's title, so finally getting to see it in action is a big deal. Unsurprisingly, it looks great, from the artwork of Mexer to the stealth-based gameplay.

Around the halls of Mt. Hexmap there's only one game that's being played and that's Obsidian Entertainment's take on Paizo's RPG in card-form, Pathfinder Adventures. Kelsey's review will be up on Monday, but what you've probably already heard about are the bugs. Yes, Pathfinder launched with a whole host of the creepy-crawlies, the biggest probably being the fact that an entire mode of play wasn't functional. Obsidian has reacted faster than a halfling with a haste spell, however, and the first patch has been released fixing most, if not all, of the major issues.
