It was just about a year ago when Spiderweb Software declared that they were done with development for iPad and would no longer produce RPGs for the platform. A few months later they reversed course, and we've been the beneficiaries ever since with the release of Avernum 2 - Crystal Souls last year and now a new Avadon game on the horizon. The new RPG is Avadon 3: The Warborn and it's coming to both Steam and iPad later this year.

Earlier today Tof casually tossed out the fact that a game they'd been following, Duelyst, had been released for PC/Mac. Ho hum, I said (to myself, lest Tof attempt to escape and strangle me with their shackles). Kelsey followed that up with mention that it was designed by Eric Lang and probably worth looking into. Again I scoffed (I don't want to encourage them) and then ran to my laptop to check it out. Looks like I might owe both Tof and Kelsey an extra slice of bread with dinner tonight, because Duelyst looks fantastic and there's a good chance it will make its way to mobile down the road.

Yesterday saw the release of a much-anticipated mobile release, Pathfinder Adventures. It's far from the only highly anticipated boardgame release coming in 2016 with the likes of Twilight Struggle, Through the Ages, and, dare I even mention it, 7 Wonders still on the docket. Another highly anticipated boardgame port that gets less press is Heroes of Normandie from Devil Pig Games. That might be because it's a less well known title, but also probably has to do with the fact that it's been available on Steam since October. Since its release, we've heard great things about the game with one exception: it's missing the tabletop version's Action Cards. Starting next week that won't be a problem because the PC version is getting said Action Cards. Lucky for us, they'll be there when the mobile app launches in July as well.

I've lately been reading 69 A.D., a book about the Year of the Four Emperors and the political upheavals that occurred in Ancient Rome after Nero decided to snuff it. The whole period (and Ancient Rome in general) has a very "Game of Thrones" feel to it that makes me want to cash in some sesterces, throw on a toga, and poison Agrippina the Younger. Lacking the ability to do any of those, I turn to my iPad for comfort. Luckily, it turns out that HexWar has repackaged volumes I-IV of their Battles of the Ancient World series into one app.

We know Lock 'n Load Publishing from their rather huge library of tabletop wargames. Last month we mentioned that their light armor combat game Tank on Tank would be making its way to iPad (we'll have more on that development next week), but it seems that might not be the end of their mobile ambitions. This morning I received a press release for a new 4X game from LnL called Falling Stars: War of Empires. I looked into it and the failed Kickstarter for the game only mentions PC/Mac/Linux, as does LnL's website. The press release, however, clearly shows iOS as one of the game's platforms.

Remember when we told you about Michael Brough's latest roguelike, Imbroglio? If not, here's a refresher: Imbroglio is Michael Brough's latest roguelike with some similarities to his classic 868-HACK except that it will have a deckbuilding element driving the action. Now do you remember? On Monday we told you pretty much everything we know about the game thus far, but today we also learned when it will land on our touchscreens. Looks like we can expect Imbroglio on May 19th.

I love the Super Bowl. Not the game itself--I don't think I've watched it since 2011 when the local team was involved and I couldn't get away from it--but the fact that it signals the end of football season. Yay! You see, where I live football is akin to religion and non-believers (and Bears fans) are lucky if they're merely drawn and quartered each season. Thus, Super Bowl Sunday is the day that the madness ends and we get six relatively football-free months. Still, I find myself drawn to games like Pro Strategy Football. It must be that middle word that does it. This year's version is attempting to do something that none of the other award-winning versions have: get on Steam.

With all the great board games on the App Store, it's easy to miss one or two when trying to remember them all. One that continually seems to get lost in the shuffle here at Mt. Hexmap is the venerable Ticket to Ride from Days of Wonder. It's really the granddaddy of all digital board game apps, existing on PCs way before the iPad was a gleam in Steve Jobs' eye. Since then it's come to phones and tablets and, just last year, relaunched as a universal app that, apparently, has a few issues. That said, it's still being supported with the latest update landing just last Friday. Not only did it aim to fix bugs and other niggling issues, it also brought along a new map: Nordic Countries.
