Last year's Vietnam '65 was a fantastic game, a wargame in which controlling the hearts and minds of the local population is just as important as which hexes your units occupy. Every Single Soldier isn't done delving into wargames with a slightly political bent, as their next game will delve into the Middle East, specifically Afghanistan '11.

Hi. It’s good to see a friendly face. Me? I’m… it’s not important who I am. I don’t even know if I’m really here. Are you? Are you here? It doesn’t matter. The important thing is that I keep having this dream. Every night. It keeps changing, it stays the same, if you’ve had this dream you know what I mean. It always starts the same way, I’m alone in a dark space, and as my eyes adjust, I see The Forks. That’s what I call it, The Forks, because it’s all narrow branching passages, twisty little passages, and it’s one decision after another, which way to go. Does it matter?

Super Tribes is the biggest surprise of 2016 thus far. As Zac explained in his review, it's a puzzle game with a 4X skin but it feels like a more fleshed out 4X than just about anything on the App Store. All in a little single-player package you can play in minutes, only to be completely heartbroken when you see how you match up on the leaderboards. This Thursday, Super Tribes is getting even more super with the release of its first major update.

Dave has recently chronicled a tabletop extravaganza of a weekend which not only induced envy, but also gave him some insight into a variety of appealing games to bring to our devices. I have, instead, been learning a single new game alone, but it’s been GMT’s latest COIN game, Liberty or Death: The American Insurrection, so maybe I win. Okay, I don’t win, but LoD is pretty great. Exploding Kittens was a Kickstarter sensation last year, racking up nearly $9 million in funding. The digital version of Exploding Kittens arrived in January of 2016 and wasn't quite as sensational. At launch the app lacked solo play vs. AI, pass-and-play, or online multiplayer. How could you play it? Only via local WiFi, meaning you could play this card game with people you knew and were in the same room with, but only if you all purchased the app. Or you could, you know, pull out the cardboard version in seconds and just play that. Last week, Substantial updated Exploding Kittens with the one feature it probably should have had at launch: online multiplayer.

We met developer NeoCrux at Gen Con last year where he was pitching his upcoming game, GalaCollider, as a 4X and CCG mashup. Unsurprisingly, we bit and watched as he walked us though pre-alpha gameplay that was more than impressive. Back in September they ran an unsuccessful Kickstarter for the game, but development continues and this weekend they're opening up the alpha and letting anyone and everyone give it a try.
