Review - Battlefleet Gothic: Leviathan

Fri Jul 15, 2016 4:02 pm

Old-time fans of the Battlefleet Gothic franchise could be forgiven for thinking that the PC version of the game, Armada, just wasn't Battlefleet Gothic enough.

I have a question about the campaign. Is it a series of scripted story missions or more of a series of battles that organically emerge as you and the other AI races flit about conquering known space?

It's a bit of both. There are scripted missions you can undertake for a reward. But you can also have unscripted encounters with the Tyranids as you try and repel them from your systems.

Do they leave room for any randomization within these scripted missions? I mean will enemy setup (specific ships and their starting points) always be identical?

Within the scripted missions, setup is always the same. There's a lot of variability in the unscripted ones, as fleets just have a points value, so you can select what ships are in play anew each time it fights.

If you succeed in the story missions then you get new ships to play with in the unscripted missions. Its a pretty neat gameplay loop.

Incredible game. Seriously, you don't even have to care about WH40k to love this game. It's made me appreciate just how deep and interesting the underlying miniatures game was.

Is multiplayer working yet? Is it asynchronous? How many people can play in one game?
