That's a great idea for a contest. I'm working on the next Demon's Rise game (Temple of Shadows) so if it's a cool idea, I'll try to incorporate it as a playable class in that game. :)

I'd be curious to see dedicated, and potentially otherwise mundane, support role character classes in turn-based RPGs. It could be slightly silly like "barmaid" or "jester" or more thematically serious with "henchman" or "blacksmith" or the like.

Functionally, the class would be all but useless on its own, unable to use weapons, armor, etc, but it would be able to magnify the abilities of the rest of the team or cause effects on enemies.

For instance:

A barmaid might supply drinks to the rest of the party that provide a wide variety of effects.

Jester might improve team moral and confuse enemies.

Blacksmith might boost weapon effects and enhance armor.

Henchman might provide a wide array of item support.

It's a bit of a riff on a being a bard, but lacking combat capability. Perhaps their mere presence has the ability to negate enemy effects like confusion or sleep by countering with something that would otherwise be rather mundane, like music countering sleep effects.

Hard to nail down a specific "mundane support" class with my only peripheral awareness of Demon's Rise's current classes and story (maybe silly is a good fit, maybe not).

The Necromancer: a relatively weak combat class that raises all its - and its minions'! - kills from the dead for a short period to fight alongside it. A true Army of One.

I would go with "Torchbearer/Apprentice"

A vanilla character to start with, this class starts with little in skills, being a junior member of the party, mostly along for providing a mobile light source and cargo space. However, as he journeys along with the other party members, over time, he gets begins to accumulate random skills from his companions in their class type that he "picked up" the knack along the way.

This character is unique as he can gain skills from any party members he is with and is not beholden to certain class types restrictions. However, he needs to stay alive for quite a bit before these benefits turn him into a unique class all it's own.

Disciple of pain. The character has a blood bond with its party, and draws from their agony: it gets stronger if it is near other PCs who are wounded, and the more badly wounded they get, the stronger it is. Maybe it also pulls some minor bonuses from being near enemies who are wounded, but it gets much more from the party, leading to a dilemma: try to heal your badly wounded guys and weaken the Disciple, or hope the Disciple can use its newfound strength to wallop the enemies before everyone else is taken out? The Disciple of course has no way to heal others.

The Hive - A collection of insects operating as one. You will use your "body" as a weapon with abilities like Spread (10% miss chance as your form expands the space between individual bugs) and Condense (DR and increase on damage of all unarmed melee attacks) acting as defensive buffs and offensive abilities like Choke (send a portion of your form to cut off the airways of enemies) and Swarm (loose form and cause AoE damage to all nearby enemies). You could "heal" any lost bugs by feeding on the refuse and corpses in your wake.

Scriptomancer

A class who fights with wits and the might of their feathers and brushes.
A scriptomancer uses seals written on pergament to seal magic spells cast by other players and/or himself, so that he can release them later on.
Release requires to simply turn the pergament a spell was ealed into apart and can be activated without delay, but if you wanna seal the spell of an ally or an enemy, it takes some time. You can activate the seal-skill, which let's you absorb the next spell cast in an area near you, but have to wait a turn afterwards - the time is needed to finish the seal on the pergament.
This class needs to be played thoughtfully, because the seal-mechanic would be pretty strong in battles and you have to decide on which spells to keep or throw out at your foes (or use them to heal/buff your team). Obvious balancing issues: The scriptomancer cannot store endless amounts of spells and carry them around. Maybe a cap of 3-5 would be alright.

Stats should be a bit weaker then other classes, but if you play rhe scriptomancer thoughtfully and try to safe the really big magic spells for boss fights, you can turn the tight of a harsh battle easily into your favor!

I hope this class fits into the theme ;)

Light/Dark Elf
The ability of the light/dark elf is to contradict its own decisions and fight with itself on a roll of 2. lol
