When Johann Andersson told Luke Plunkett back in August that he was hoping to able to bring Paradox’s stable of grand strategy games to iPad, he was doing more than thinking wishfully. Paradox has had World War II grand strategy title Hearts of Iron Mobile in the works with their development partners Herocraft since 2009, and they’re aiming for release on October 4th for both iOS and Android.
Andersson said in that interview that they would’t make a mobile release if they had to strip away features or cut into their games’ legendary complexity. It’d be foolish to infer too much from one image – but that picture over there on the right looks reassuringly similar to Hearts of Iron 2 for PC, no?
Herocraft have sent along a live action teaser trailer – there’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment of gameplay footage in there. The trailer’s after the jump.
UPDATE: Uh-oh. Paradox has asked me (via Herocraft’s PR guy) to pull this post down. The trailer is a publicly-accessible video, and it’s still up – so I assume the problem is with the release date. I will always respect an embargo if I’m asked to adhere to one, but in this case Herocraft gave me the info and I told them I was going to post it and the objection didn’t arise until later. The post is up, it’s been linked to from several places – I don’t think taking it down serves any purpose at this point.
Blah, blah, blah. Sorry about all the inside baseball. The trailer remains after the jump.
UPDATE 2: A reader wrote in on Saturday morning to point out that I’d neglected to mention that (according to the video) Hearts of Iron Mobile will also be released for the Blackberry Playbook. I’ll bet the decision to develop for that ill-fated platform seemed like a wise one in 2010 or so.
UPDATE 3 (4 October 2012): Hearts of Iron Mobile has been cancelled.
