Confession time: I’ve never played an Assassin’s Creed game. Not one. So when I look at the trailer for the newly-revealed Assassin’s Creed Pirates, it’s not through the eyes of a fan. Basically, the game looks like someone did a whimsy-ectomy on Sid Meier’s Pirates.
But the Assassin’s Creed franchise has a track record of making good mobile games, I’m told. Assassin’s Creed Recollections — an iOS CCG whose release predates the existence of PT by a week was apparently outstanding; Eurogamer/Guardian scribe Rich Stanton and I were serendipitously talking about it on Twitter last night.
So maybe some of that Recollections magic is going to rub off on Pirates — it sure sounds like it could excellent. Cruise around the Caribbean in a sloop (what a great word), upgrade your ship & crew, blast open some Spanish galleons, and stumble around squinting at stuff like Johnny Depp. That last part might just be me. Right now.
Assassin’s Creed Pirates will be out this fall on “smartphones and tablets”. Watch the trailer after the jump.
