That's no moon: Knights of the Old Republic for iPad really exists (UPDATED)

A certain point of view? "So what I told you was true, from a certain point of view."

We were speculating last week that Knights of the Old Republic might be making its way to iPadafter IGN's Justin Davis uncovered a poorly edited email newsletter alluding to a port of the classic Star Wars RPG. Speculate no longer, meatbags: KOTOR for iPad is real, and IGN has played it.

Heck, IGN has reviewed it already, and they've awarded the game an 8.8 out of 10 in a review published this morning. Take that with a grain of salt, as IGN has historically assigned good review scores to any game that doesn't melt in your hands, but it's definitely encouraging.

The new mystery is not "does this game exist?" but rather, "is the game out?". Apparently not -- I've been through the App Store and turned up nothing, and IGN's review has no suggestion of a release date or anything like that.

So when will we get to play KOTOR on our iPads? The sudden appearance of the IGN review without accompanying press releases and nostalgia-milking interviews with Bioware devs suggests this might be a panicked reaction to the newsletter fumble, rather than an orchestrated media campaign. But who knows? I'll try to find out.

UPDATE: Still getting radio silence from Bioware and Aspyr, but IGN UK has tweeted that KOTOR will be up on the App Store at 5pm -- presumably British Summer Time, but they don't specify. This could still all be an elaborate hoax by IGN, as no other outlet on Earth seems to have first-hand knowledge of this release. Weird. (Hat-tip to Moe.)

UPDATE II: Knights of the Old Republic for iPad is here -- it's ten bucks.
