Review: Assault Wave

  • iOS

After playing Assault Wave, I’ve pretty sure that the developer’s research of WW2 started, and ended, with a viewing of Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor. Not that they cover the same period of the war, but both are chiefly concerned loud noises and big explosions, and both are ultimately shallow and...

Review: SimpleRockets

I've long fancied myself a student, and even a steward, of neglected game genres. In the mid '90s when RPG's lay cold and forlorn, I made a point of playing all those creaky, cumbersome dungeon-crawlers that eventually starved the genre of life.

Review: Trapped!

11 Sep 2013 0
  • iOS

Lemonade GameLabs' Trapped! for iPad adapts much of the dice-rolling gameplay of Elder Sign (which is essentially Lovecraftian Yahtzee) to an imminently exploding alien spaceship setting and real-time play. There's a unique exploration element, and the devs have subbed out Cthulhu and subbed in the Grey aliens from Unsolved Mysteries.

As any kid who's ever tried to play with his pet guinea pig and his pet snake at the same time can tell you, two things that you love don't always go great together. Call of Duty: Strike Team is two beautifully rendered, lavishly produced games joined together into one...

While it can be a matter of pride to have your games classified under their own unique umbrella, that simplification does disservice to the...

Review: Kingdoms Fall

Clones get a bad rap. Be they the shunned products of unregulated genetic experiments, alternate universes, or a galactic emperor who puts a lot of faith in the military chain of command, clones just never get the respect their originals/Earth-1 counterparts/gene-seed progenitors got.

Review: Blackbar

I've already lied to you: this isn't a review of Blackbar. At least, there isn't going to be any number at the end. This is because Blackbar isn't really a game.

There's a wonderful mystery hidden in the game mechanics of Brief History of the World. The game involves players controlling empires for a single turn and then retiring them (much as one does in Small World) to go and play an entirely different civilization.
