Fallen London arrives on iOS19 Apr 2016 27
It's too bad Tof isn't around this week, as one of their favorite games has just arrived on the App Store. That game would be Fallen London, the text-based adventure game set in a gothic Victorian London that, for some reason, has been pulled below the earth. Previously, you could only play the game within a browser, but now Failbetter Games (still my favorite developer name) has released a native app for iOS Universal allowing you to play it on the go.
You might have seen me just call Fallen London a text-based adventure and have images of typing "get lamp" and looking over your shoulder for grues. Not the case. This world is incredibly large, and the options available to you within it seem almost limitless. It's big enough to be daunting for new users, and I'm still trying to find my footing in the game. The options seem endless, and they might be: Fallen London holds over 1.5 million words just waiting for you to explore.
The game is free to download and play, but there is some exclusive content that can only be earned via a monthly subscription. I'm not nearly deep enough into the game to know what I'm missing, if anything, by not subscribing. There is also an in-game currency called "Fate" which can be purchased with real cash. Tof is a long time player and should have more insight into the IAP system within Fallen London, and just how high the paywall might be. Watch for their review next week. For now, I've been having fun exploring without spending a dime, so it might be worth a download to see if it's for you.
