Welcome to this week's edition of News by Numbers, where we highlight some of the can't-miss mobile gaming news each and every week.
Solitairica: 1 year anniversary
I mentioned the sale last week, but still wanted to call out the one-year anniversary of one of my favorite games: Solitairica. It's rare that I play a game for an entire year, and beyond, but Solitairica is in that club. The RPG-meets-solitaire gameplay is just that good and the number of deck options put the replay value through the roof, plus the developer actively adds new content and makes other valuable changes. Congratulations to Righteous Hammer games on one year of awesomeness!
Miracle Merchant: version 1.1
Speaking of excellent solitaire-style card games, Miracle Merchant just got its first update. Cloud saves were added, which is great for playing on multiple devices, and there are some interesting statistics to check out in the game's settings. You can also check out yesterday's daily results and see how you ranked overall. Oh, and for those times you get swamped in spoiled ingredients there's a bit more favorable black-card distribution now as well.
Reigns Her Majesty: $2.99
Swipe-to-decide pioneer Reigns was one of the biggest games of 2016. There have been a lot of games since that have imitated the style and made "Reignslike" a legitimate gaming genre. None has captured the depth and entertainment that the original brings to the screen. A new contender has a chance though… Reigns: Her Majesty is due out this year and puts you in the place of not the king but the queen. It will feature the same great gameplay and balancing act between four competing factions. Reigns: Her Majesty will set you back three bucks, a steal if it's anything like the original.
Roll for the Galaxy: 3 platforms
Stately Play's Dave Neumann dug some great news out of Gen Con about the coming of Roll for the Galaxy to iOS, Android, and PC, the second tabletop to digital game set in the same world as the recently released Race for the Galaxy. It's early yet in the development cycle so we don't know much more, but if Race is any indicator, it should be pretty great.
Asmodee Digital: 9 new mobile games
Gen Con came and went and with it an announcement from Asmodee Digital about new games they are bringing to the mobile world. A number of new titles will show up yet this year. We'll see Ticket to Ride: First Journey, which is meant to introduce new and younger players to the classic tabletop board game, as well as a new Android version of another classic, Carcossonne.
Smash Up—a board game where you build a deck of pirates, ninjas, robots, and zombies and take on up to three other players—will be moving out of beta and into app stores this year as well. Card-based racing game Mille Bornes is also coming this year along with Catan Stories, a text-based adventure game set in the world of Catan, and Abalone, an abstract two-player game of marbles.
Zombicide, a post-apocalyptic survival game with plenty of walking dead is also on its way to digital. And finally, we'll see Gloom, a game about visiting tragedy upon a very strange family, and Bananagrams—a game of anagrams and, you know, bananas.
That's all for this week's news update. If you have any news you want to get into next week's column, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
