Welcome to this week's edition of News by Numbers, where we highlight some of the can't-miss mobile gaming news each and every week.

Space Grunts: $0 on Android

Space Grunts is the perfect game for people who like to get an arcade action shoot 'em up fix without having to rely on fast-twitch reflexes. All of the action takes within the comfortable confines of a turn-based strategy game, but those turns are quick—under a second each—and combined with Space Grunt's explosive graphical style the action really does feel intense. It's really fun and now there's a free version on Android. Check out Tof's five-star review for more info and then pick this one up.

Demon's Rise 2: version 2.1

Tactical RPG Demon's Rise 2 got another great update that adds new content in the form of yet another interesting character, the Stone Troll, a serious tank with health regeneration. The update also adds iPhone X support, improved graphics for all newer devices, a low graphics setting to save that battery life, among other quality of life changes and bug fixes.

Race for the Galaxy: 3rd expansion

The Brink of War expansion for this epic digital board game has arrived, and the war for galactic prestige has gone hot. The pressure is on to build an empire that can fend off the myriad of foes massing all around you. Here's what Temple Gate Game's has to say about this third expansion to Race for the Galaxy:

This third expansion adds four new starting worlds, thirty six new developments to build and worlds to settle, five new goals, and prestige. Prestige adds a new way to earn victory and gain the advantage against opponents. A powerful new action, Search, lets players find particular types of cards to complement their galactic strategies.

Minecraft: 12 days of Minecraft

It's holiday time in the world of Minecraft and December 21st through January 1st are officially the 12 days of Minecraft. Visit the Minecraft marketplace to get a free gift each day and explore other holiday content. Each gift is only available for 24 hours.

Hearthstone: 14 days of celebration

Speaking of in-game holiday fun, Hearthstone has also started its Winter Veil Celebration. December 17th through the 30th will have special winter themed game boards as well as special emotes to, you know, converse with your random opponents in a very limited way. The 20th through the 24th there will also be a Tavern Brawl where you can get up to three Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs.

Lord of the Rings The Card Game: 2018

Fantasy Flight Interactive, the recently announced digital wing of Fantasy Flight Games and Asmodee Digital, revealed that they are working on a Lord of the Rings cooperative-card game. It will be in Early Access on Steam within a few months will a full release to follow in 2018. Initially, the game will be single player only with multiplayer following thereafter. The download will be free but we can expect some in-app purchases to grab non-random card packs with which to play more of the game. There is no mention of mobile in the announcement, but, there are both iOS and Android symbols in the trailer so it's just a matter of time.

That's all for the 2017 series of news by numbers! We hope you've enjoyed our weekly round-ups, and NBN will return again next year.
