Welcome to this week's edition of News by Numbers, where we highlight some of the can't-miss mobile gaming news each and every week.
Cinco Paus: version 1.03
Michael Brough's latest game, Cinco Paus, received full marks here, a five-star review. The most recent version fixes bugs and upgrades the cloak to work with a gem, rather than requiring a passive trigger. Brought talked a little about his design priorities for the game in this twitter thread.
the design prioritises generating fun and varied situations more than being perfectly "balanced" or whatever, so i'm happy to have random strong stuff in there (i follow different values for different games to get to different places)— Michael Brough (@smestorp) January 24, 2018
Battleheart 2: 3rd of 12 heroes
We've got another preview of one of the characters in the forthcoming Battleheart 2 from Mika Mobile. This week the spotlight found Cyrus, the Gravecaller who controls the weather… just kidding, he's a necromancer. He can raise the dead and then sacrifice them for some nice area-of-effect damage. Cyrus is calling to me for when Battleheart 2 arrives later this year.
Six Ages: 5th game in the world of Glorantha
King of Dragon Pass is a 4x civilization builder, RPG, and interactive fiction game blended together. It's an App Store classic and its spiritual successor just hit beta. Sharp Games' latest blog post declares Six Ages to be in beta, which means they are focused on squashing bugs, marketing, and getting the game out the door. The game will feature the same type of gameplay as King of Dragon Pass, and is in fact set in the same world, Glorantha (which also hosted RuneQuest, HeroQuest, and 13th Age). Here's hoping we get our hands on it soon!
Hearthstone: 5 stars to advance
There's some Hearthstone laddering changes coming for you hot shots out there. Beginning with the March ranked play season you will only lose 4 ranks at the start of each season and it will take 5 stars to advance to any new rank. This is meant to address frequent complaints of top players that the monthly slide is too much. Ben Brode is here to tell you more.
Beginning with the start of the March 2018 Ranked Play season, we’re making improvements to Hearthstone’s Ranked Play ladder experience. Check out the video below to see what to expect, as well as the philosophy and intentions behind the update. pic.twitter.com/mIsbxHtyQ7— Hearthstone (@PlayHearthstone) January 25, 2018
Darkest Dungeon: 30 days or less?
Darkest Dungeon was easily one of the bigger mobile releases last year and Red Hook, the makers of the game, are working on bringing the two big expansions to iPad very soon. Crimson Court and Shieldbreaker are coming to Switch and PS4 in March for sure and will "hopefully" hit iPad within a month.
Hopefully within the next month. We are getting our release build put together this week and will be testing for a couple weeks after that. This is for both Crimson Court and Shieldbreaker as well as some fixes/improvements. https://t.co/imGo7SW9MC— Darkest Dungeon (@DarkestDungeon) January 24, 2018
Rome: Total War: Excitement over 9000...
Feral Interactive are getting closer and closer to releasing Rome: Total War onto iPhones. They recently posted up a new mini-blog looking at how they've adapted the character screen to show you everything you need to know using less real-estate. They've even thrown in some colour-coding to boot. Still no concrete news as to when this is releasing, but we hope it won't be too long a wait.
That's it for this week's news round-up - enjoy your week!
