News by Numbers: July 17th, 201717 Jul 2017 2
Welcome to this week's edition of News by Numbers, where we highlight some of the can't-miss mobile gaming news each and every week.
Don't Starve Pocket Edition: $.99 (iOS, Android is still full priced)
Klei's excellent real-time strategy survival game, Don't Starve, is on sale for just a dollar on iOS . A recent update also added a "No Sweat" mode for casual players, kids, and people who just want to derp around and not go mad and get eaten all of the time.
Framed 2: also $.99 (iOS, Android coming soon)
Want a newer game on the cheap? How about Framed 2, released just this month, for a dollar? Framed 2 picks up and improves upon the reshuffle-the-frames mechanic from the first game and is an absolute steal at this price.
The Escapists: 2
The Escapists is a really fun, sandbox style game of living in, and eventually escaping from, prison. A sequel is on the way and launching on consoles and PC August 22. The Escapists 2 will feature new prisons, updated combat, exciting new ways to escape, versus mode, and cooperative play. Hopefully, we can expect a mobile launch sometime in the near future.
Faeria: cost increased from 2 to 3
Collectible-card game Faeria launched earlier this year and is working through some balance changes, known to players as nerfs. The cost to play "star legend" cards, these are some of the most powerful cards in the game, increased by one colored "mana" each. Seifer, Blood Tyrant now requires three mountains rather than two and Khalim, Sky Prodigy is going to need 3 deserts rather than 2 for example. Check out the patch notes for other changes and more details.
Warlock of Firetop Mountain: 3 new heroes
Tin Man Games has some updates for The Warlock of Firetop Mountain in the works. The base game is all kinds of fun and now three new heroes, more monsters, and a new area to explore are coming as part of the Goblin Scourge expansion. The new expansion should be available sometime this month.
Battleheart 2: 20 talents per hero
No sooner did we publish an updated 2017 games guide than Mika Mobile came out with their summer blog-post update on Battleheart 2. The sequel will include the ability to enchant items using crystals, a new in-game currency earned as loot, which will confer stat boosts to the character using the item. Battleheart 2 will also introduce skill points that can be used to unlock new active and passive abilities for heroes. Skill points will be pooled for your entire roster making for some interesting choices on which character to improve and when. The game is on track for a late 2017 finish, although finishing the trickier boss battles might push it into 2018.
Feudal Feud: $7,855 Kickstarter Goal
If you really liked Subterfuge but felt the scope was a bit tame, Feudal Feud is probably for you. It's a game of war and diplomacy between 100 people over two weeks. What you conquer you must rule, so when you take out another player they become your vassal and maintaining their loyalty is a big facet of the game. Monarchs eventually up and die as well, and successions can be…bloody. The Kickstarter is looking for funds to get this one out of beta and across the finish line.
Star Realms: $100,000 Kickstarter Goal
A Kickstarter campaign for the Star Realms Frontiers expansion launched last week and quickly found success. It was fully funded within an hour and the goal was tripled within a day. This seems to be a theme for White Wizard, who have earned a devout following. They probably still sweat Kickstarter launches but it sure seems they needn't worry! This Kickstarter features nine all-new Star Realms sets and you can check it out and get in on the action here. Undoubtedly this physical success will make its way to our mobile devices in due time.
That's all for this week's round-up - see you next time!
