Phantom App Sales - The Best Games

By Joe Robinson 14 Oct 2016 4

If you've been keeping an eye on the news this past week, you have seen hints of some kind of 'Indie Gems' sale supposedly happening on the App Store. Despite a direct reference on inkle's 80 Days iOS page (and mentions in the news), nothing official has really emerged regarding the event.

Still, that hasn't stopped plenty of games receiving discounts this week, so here's a break-down of the ones we think you'll be interested in:

80 Days by inkle

Dave awarded 80 Days 4-stars when it released back in 2014. We weren't the only ones to give it high praise, 80 Days has received numerous awards and accolades.

If this is one that past you by, pick it up on iOS for $1.99/£1.79. The game's also available on Android, but there's no discount.

Agricola: All Creatures Big & Small

Tof really liked the Agricola digital adaptation, giving it 4-stars. This discount doesn't seem to be connected to the Indie Gems sale, but is instead celebrating Essen Spiel 2016 this week.

Creatures big and small 2

All of DIGIDICED's Uwe Rosenburg's titles are discounted as part of this sale. You can pick it up on both iOS and Android for $1.99/£1.79.

Le Havre: The Inland Port

It doesn't look like we reviewed the digital adaptation of Le Havre: The Inland Port, which is a shame. Being another DIGIDICED adaptation though, I'm sure it's great.

Again, this is discounted to celebrate Essen Spiel and you can pick it up on iOS and Android for $1.99/£1.79

Patchwork: The Game

Another Uwe Rosenburg digital adaptation, Kelsey reviewed this for Pocket Tactics back in February although he only awarded it 3-Stars.

Still at $0.99/£0.89, might be worth checking out if you've played the original game.

Pick it up on iOS and Android before time runs out!

Hitman, Lara Croft & Deus Ex GO

All three of Square's 'GO' titles are on sale.

We never reviewed Hitman GO, but you can pick it up on iOS and Android for $0.99/£0.79.

Deus Ex Go iOS review

Lara Croft GO was awarded 4-stars by Kelsey last year, and is also available on iOS and Android for $0.99/£0.79.

Last but certainly not least, Deus Ex GO was reviewed by Sean in August and also awarded 4-Stars. It's a slightly higher price than the other two, being the newest, but $1.99/£1.79 is nothing to sniff at. Pick it up on iOS and Android.

Monument Valley

Jacob Tierney, a previous Pocket Tactics writer, reviewed Monument Valley for us back in 2014. It got 4-Stars, as well as other accolades and awards in the year it was released.

This is another one where the discount is only on the iOS store (Google Play Link), where you can pick it up for $1.99/£1.79.

Machinarium

The second game to mention the 'Indie Gems' promotion directly, this is another one we never got around to reviewing ourselves. It's a shame because this award-winning title from Amanita Design is the epitome of an 'indie darling'.

If you haven't checked it out for yourself yet, it's discounted on iOS to $1.99/£1.79, and full price on Android

That finishes our breakdown of the games we think you'd all be interested in. Feel free to post any other recommendations below if you see others. We'll keep you updated if anything official emerges regarding this 'Indie Gems' promotion.
