The 2017 Pocket Tactics GOTY Award Voting & Nominations are Open! [CLOSED]11 Dec 2017 14
It’s that time of year again, folks! It's time for the Pocket Tactics GOTY Award Nominations! This is our annual event where we celebrate the year’s best and brightest mobile games on iOS and Android.
VOTING IS NOW CLOSED
Update: The Google form broke overnight, so it had to be taken down and re-done. Whilst we were there, we took on board some early feedback and changed how the voting process works. Unfortunately, this means we had to delete tall the responses we had up till then. Apologies for the inconvenience.
The voting period for the 2017 Pocket Tactics Game of the Year Awards starts NOW. The current plan is to close voting around two weeks from today, depending on when we get a chance to flick that ‘off’ switch.
The Pocket Tactics staff will start their voting behind the scenes and their nominations will be weighted in conjunction with the reader votes. Readers will be given a chance to vote in all of the main categories, as well as the reader-only Reader’s Choice Award.
Eligible Games (Main Categories)
For the main vote, all games that have been reviewed on Pocket Tactics in 2017 and received a score of 4 or 5 were made eligible to be nominated for the awards. The full list is here, if you want to have a look.
The voting form has a drop-down menu that lists all of the games that are eligible. If it's not in the drop-down list, you can't vote for it. Sorry!
Below are the eight main categories open for nominations. We’ve tweaked things again this year to fit in with changes that have been made to the site during 2017. Since April, all reviews across Pocket Tactics, Strategy Gamer & Wargamer have come with a ‘genre’ tag, e.g., ‘Real-Time Strategy’ or ‘Puzzle’.
I know there can be some debate about what genre a game fits in to, and we don’t have some tags like ‘management’ (but that just means any 'management' games will have been given a different tag, most likely 'Simulation'). This system keeps things a bit neater for us in terms of collecting votes. The categories this year are:
- Real-Time Strategy/Tactics
- Turn-Based Strategy/Tactics
- Card Game
- Board Game
- Multiplayer Game*
* This isn't an official category, obviously, so you can vote for whatever you want in here so long as it scored a 4/5 and has multiplayer as part of the design, even if it was added after our review.
Reader’s Choice Award
We’re changing the Reader’s Choice Award this year to keep things simple. You may remember during last year’s voting process, there was a ‘Wildcard’ nomination that allowed a reader to vote for any game released in 2016 -- regardless of whether we’d reviewed it or not (and irrespective of the score we gave it if we did).
This year, I’m simplifying the Reader’s Choice award so that it's just that. You can vote for any iOS or Android mobile game released in 2017, regardless of whether we reviewed it or not, and regardless of the score we gave it if we did.
This is YOUR voice, so you decide what you want to say with it!
How to Vote
For this year’s awards, we’re going to try using Google Forms to ensure the data is collected efficiently and in a way we can breakdown the information without too much effort.
Please go here to vote. Only one form per person.
