There's something so appealing about urban games - maybe it's because I'd love to go and socialize with similar people or be able to skate freely around; who knows. Either way, Canvas City's new demo opens up another metropolitan area we can explore.
A free demo for Canvas City drops on Steam today, August 24, so you can try out the turn-based game ahead of its release. Flaunt your moves, face off against other skate crews, and get your spray paint cans ready to tag your surroundings. It's got some vibes similar to Jet Set Radio and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.
The demo allows access to four levels, six playable characters, and three character classes, giving you a great taste of what's to come. Your key focus will be figuring out new skate tricks and abilities, though. But while you're grinding the rails and flipping over ramps, you've gotta take your follower count into consideration, as it all helps you beat rival skate crews.
Canvas City is made by Disc 2 Games, with support from Black Salt, who you may recognize as the team behind indie hit Dredge. That - and the game's cool style - is why we're excited, as Dredge is one of the best indie games out there.
It's part of this year's official selection at London Games Festival, popped up at PAX East, and even at Frosty Game Fest. Clearly, we're not the only ones excited for it to release.
The full title is in active development for Nintendo Switch as well as PC, and I'm very interested in trying it out on the handheld console - but I will be dropping into the demo as I lament the lack of rollerblade-friendly locations near me, so I'll do it in a game instead.
