There's a new action RPG on the block, and you really don't want to miss this one. First announced on October 20, 2023, Duet Night Abyss is a fresh fantasy adventure boasting an intriguing dual narrative, intricate gameplay systems, immersive combat, stunning visuals, and more.
It's easily become one of our most highly anticipated games of the year, especially following its appearance at both Gamescom 2025 and Tokyo Game Show 2025. And now, the wait is finally over.
That's right - after years of hard work and development, including many changes based on community feedback, the Duet Night Abyss release date has finally arrived, with the game launching globally on PC, mobile, and the Epic Store on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 - meaning you can download and play for free right now.
Duet Night Abyss invites you to explore a dual narrative through the eyes of two protagonists, gradually unraveling the story of the fantastical world that surrounds you. Throughout the game, you can freely choose and deploy the two protagonists across different chapters, allowing you to experience the story through two unique yet interconnected perspectives. Your choice in dialogue also matters here, and you can experience different story paths by choosing different options through the dice-rolling Impression System.
The game's launch came shortly after the Duet Night Abyss Special Program on Saturday, October 25, which highlighted major updates to the monetization system, the different ways you can obtain characters and weapons, and updates on both character designs and skins.
While Duet Night Abyss may share some similarities with other games like Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, and Honkai Star Rail, it actually breaks the mold in a variety of ways. Perhaps the biggest example of this is the fact that this is not your traditional gacha game.
Armed with in-depth research of the current game market and a unique long-term vision, the dev team has decided to remove the character and weapon gacha, deciding that, while this may mean sacrificing some short-term monetization opportunities, this will help establish a healthier and more sustainable business model in the long run, and allows you to enjoy the pure appeal of the game itself.
Now, both star ratings and banners are no longer present, giving you two options to obtain characters. First, you can choose to purchase character shards outright to unlock characters, and you only have to purchase the number of shards you need. But, more importantly for any free-to-play or low-spending players, you can freely obtain and upgrade all characters by collecting shards from the Secret Letter without having to contend with luck or randomness. Additionally, you can forge any weapons you want for free, simply by collecting materials throughout the game.
Instead of a character and weapon gacha, the monetization in Duet Night Abyss now focuses on cosmetic systems entirely unrelated to gameplay, such as skins, accessories, and effects. This means that you can fully enjoy the game without feeling pressured to spend, but have the option to splash some cash to enjoy a more personalized experience.
Additionally, the purchasable cosmetics are now even more detailed, consisting of high quality character skins with more accessories, beautiful patterns, new animations, and upgraded visual effects. And, to offer even more personalization options, you can freely dye different parts of your skins and weapon appearances, allowing you to create entirely custom color schemes.
So far, the dev team has revealed three stunning skins - Psyche: Minuet Reverie, Truffle and Filbert: Sunlit Gristmill, and Rebecca: Veils and Whispers - as well as a flashy sword skin called Tough Love. There's also an upcoming Christmas character skin on the cards if you fancy getting festive, so keep an eye out for further announcements.
The Special Program also highlighted another significant gameplay improvement - Duet Night Abyss no longer has a stamina system. If you've played similar live service games in the past, you'll know that stamina systems can be incredibly limiting, often restricting your playtime while you wait for your stamina to regenerate (or purchase more stamina, if you don't want to wait).
However, with the aim of providing a stress-free, fast-paced combat experience, Duet Night Abyss has opted to completely strip this away. This means there are now no stamina restrictions on any commissions, allowing you to freely choose when and how you want to play. The commission experience also boasts further optimizations, including a continuous combat and drop multiplier feature that seeks to improve farming efficiency.
When taking on these commissions, Duet Night Abyss allows for a variety of different playstyles. If you prefer to fight solo but want a little extra help, you can use the Sigil System to battle alongside up to two AI companions. Or, if you fancy playing with pals, the co-op mode allows you to team up with up to three friends to boost your farming efficiency even further.
These diverse commissions feature relentless waves of enemies, where you get to mercilessly mow through hordes of foes in exhilarating, musou-like battles, and having the option to keep charging through without worrying about your daily stamina cap only adds to the thrill.
Of course, you can expect plenty of rewards from completing commissions - and perhaps one of the most valuable items you can get from these are Demon Wedges. Beyond your regular HP, crit, and attack speed boosts, Demon Wedges also come with additional affixes that modify your character's skills, attacks, and damage.
They're divided into three different types - character, melee, and ranged - and you can use them to alter attack patterns and skill patterns. They feature guaranteed stat increments when you acquire and upgrade them, and, once you've obtained one type, you can reuse it across multiple characters or weapons simultaneously, reducing the need for tedious grinding sessions.
Stamina limitations aren't just absent in your daily gameplay, either - they're also absent when it comes to movement. In Duet Night Abyss, all movement options are free from stamina limits, allowing for a seamless blend of combat techniques and battles. Not only can you sprint, dodge, jump, and double jump around freely, you can also perform a one-click helix leap, bounce off walls, and zip around with a grappling hook, meaning you can enjoy a seamless traversal experience no matter what platform you prefer to play on.
The combat in Duet Night Abyss breaks the mold, too, offering multi-dimensional loadouts and heaps of flexibility, all of which add up to make a thrilling gameplay experience like no other. Not only are all weapons available through crafting, they're also not locked to specific characters, giving you access to a wide variety of melee and ranged options no matter who you choose to play as.
Each character can equip both a melee and a ranged weapon simultaneously, allowing you to explore a bunch of different weapon combinations. Whether you fancy trying out dual pistols and a greatsword or a grenade launcher and a polearm, you're free to experiment and find the right combo for you, then freely switch between the two at any time.
In the lead-up to release, eager players everywhere signed up early, reaching the pre-registration milestones with ease. Now, several Duet Night Abyss codes from the Special Program are ready and waiting for you to redeem, and there are even more SNS event rewards up for grabs.
During the global launch, you can nab free Pristine Hourglass and Prismatic Hourglass, which you can use to pull for stunning cosmetic skins, simply by logging in, and you can earn up to 107 of these Hourglasses by participating in the in-game event. You can also obtain seven high-quality characters for free by completing in-game tasks, allowing you to start your new adventure in style.
Duet Night Abyss is available now on PC, mobile, and the Epic Store, and you can play for free now.
