Similar but not the same. Ingenious is on a hex board and counts only lines, not areas. But... yeah, this is Knizia copying himself, which is kinda weird.

Re: Board Game of the Year 2017: Race for the Galaxy

Right, what Mirefox says.

Barring expansions and a small pile of chits, RFTG is a pure card game.

TTA, meanwhile, includes a large board for tracking science/military/culture, as well as player boards for keeping track of blue and yellow cubes--not to mention the cubes themselves.

But... calling TTA a card game is a bit like calling poker a board game...

For those who prefer simulation-style games, I'll recommend Townsmen. Free to play, pay-for currency entirely unneeded, though for a few bucks you can get unlimited speed-ups which is really nice.

I tried out Bit City because usually I like NimbleBit's stuff.

It's about 20% SimCity, and 80% Cookie Clicker. It is a "game" in a technical sense. That said, I wouldn't worry too much about IAP, much like Pocket Trains.

Pina Pirata is a take-off of Uno/Crazy Eights that uses a double-9 domino deck... of pirates. It was created by Donald X Vaccarino, who created Dominion, and so every round sees a bunch of extra rules that make the game more interesting (things like: you can't play a walrus on another walrus; or, tu...
