Re: <t>Further Reading - The Age of Sail</t>

De Ruyter,

No really, you like the Admiral??? Shocked, shocked I say, who might have possibly guessed. Dear say, might I ask why :) ?

Seriously, I've seen naval flicks before like Master and Commander, but the large scale battle scenes from overhead were jaw dropping.

Hey dude, I can copy and paste from TMP as well :)! Seriously, with a moniker like yours, I sorta expected a response. Otherwise, and as I said on TMP, in many respects, that's the point. Other gamers will say "X, Y and Z" rules are just too damned complex and detailed for the level of combat repres...

Re: <t>First Look: Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail Backer Build 3</t>

A post in the UA: AOS Community Forum confirms NO multiplayer option for the game. Surprisingly, most everyone who commented is happy about this decision.

Re: <t>Marching Eagles: Waterloo Review</t>

I just got back from holiday, so I just saw the question on the AI. First, a lot depends on what you call a competent or competitive AI. I played the Wavre scenario as the French. Historically the Prussians at the battle executed a holding action to ensure the rest of Blucher's army could march to W...

Re: <t>The Best Napoleonic War Games</t>

I disagree, its not junk. Its likely THE most accurate Napoleonic battle game ever designed . . . BUT . . . hyper accuracy, hyper detail and for uber Grogs only. I did a review of it here and this can be found at https://www.wargamer.com/articles/accuracy-vs-overkill-an-overview-of-histwar-napoleon/...

Re: <t>Historicon 2019 & The Rise of the Cigar Box Battle Mat</t>

Yes, I saw them. They are made by a firm called Killing Ground out of Maryland. Take what's next with a big grain of salt because I've not personally used them, but my comments are . . . 1. Better price point. 2. Bulkier so more difficult to store. 3. Harder to get figures to stand up, particularly ...

Re: <t>Legendary War Game Designer Richard Berg Has Passed Away</t>

I never thought I would be one to speak ill of the dead, but I have to admit I had very mixed emotions when I learned of his passing last week. I knew him personally and worked with him or in support of him on several of his wargame designs (so yes, you will see my name in print). As a designer he w...

<t>I checked today with the director of the Ancients tournament here at Historicon because he does live and breathe this stuff to the point he is a reliable SME IMHO. His comment mirrors mine. Ancient battles were indeed very lopsided affairs, but not as lopsided as ancient writers record. So 31,000...

Re: <t>Field of Glory: Empires Review</t>

Or so far as we know. One thing to remember is that ancient historians wrote to influence, not to inform. Exageration was one key tool used. Thus at Pydna we have the losing side with 31,000 casualties to include 20,000 KIA, the winning side less than 100. Also, most casualties inflicted occurred wh...
