The app is really excellent. My two minor quibbles (which I should probably pass along to the devs):
  • Unless I'm missing something, I have to go back to the main menu and then into the online game menu to switch between games. A "next game" button would be nice.
  • The app's generally very good about graying out and disabling options you can't use during your turn, but the option to sell cotton seems to always be available after you've sold cotton once, even if you don't have cotton to sell.
Totally agree on your first point.

Thankfully, I've only been in 2 games max at a time, so it hasn't been *too* bad, but still annoying.

I hadn't noticed your second point. Definitely something they should be made aware of.

I still have NO IDEA what I am doing in these games.... evidenced by me building 4 ports and almost going bankrupt!

One of these days, I'll actually make a Shipyard strategy work. I never build them because they get unwieldy, but then somebody builds at least one and beats me...
I think this is one of the ways 3- and 4-player games differ. If you look at the top-scoring games at OotH, you'll see that the highest-scoring 3-player games build both mills and shipyards, which generally isn't true for 4-player. I've not played enough 3-player games to have a feel for the game tempo needed to make that work.

This is actually a decent strategy, but you'll need to hope that everyone else is building mills and you'll need to be building coal mines and iron works to keep your income ticking over before your ports get flipped. As ports are relatively cheap compared to mills, it is doable.

Great game. I was fortunate to be able to build a shipyard on the last turn and that gave me the win. We were close in score most of Era 2.

Joined after a certain amount of confusion relating to picking the last hat. Anyway, good luck all.
