Like many greats before it and to come, Terraforming Mars is both a hybrid of existing archetypes and something fresh all its own.

I'm in the beta and can say this is one of the best board games I've played (after Twilight Struggle). I can't imagine playing the cardboard version though. I imagine it'd be a fiddly nightmare.

Cardboard isn't bad. The economy tracks are easy to read and manage. The biggest issue is that you really need quite a bit of space to lay out your card tableau. I've played plenty of games that are far more fiddly, though. TM on the table is very manageable.

You mention soft-async play. Is there no hard async option? That would be incredibly sad.

The cardboard version is one of our favorite games, we???ve played it more than anything else. There have been regular 2-day weekends when my wife and I have gotten 4 games in.

I will also buy the app, but there???s a lot to be said for the tactile stuff in this game.
