Thank God, getting so sick of everyone choosing that power house Priest in Arena mode. Oh wait, no! No they don't! No one takes Priest as it has TERRIBLE cards for Arena. Ugh...

The funny thing is if they just removed the word "friendly" it would be pretty useful.

He's right about the complexity in the video.

This isn't like traditional playing cards where Montecarlo analysis can be run to figure out probabilities etc. The permutations of play are astronomical and magnitudes more complex than games such as poker, it's variants or boardgames like chess. Thus is makes balancing almost impossible for a game such as Hearthstone. But of the flip-side, this is where great players will seek and exploit these idiosyncrasies (wearing the games credibility once the knowledge is out there - market efficiencies always ensue...).

I've managed and worked on pricing and risk management trading platforms for investment banks using highly complex derivatives and that's child's play in comparison.

Great to see this here--I was not aware that this had blown up into such a controversy. And thanks for all the links to the discussions that have been happening around this.

Priest honestly -is- just about un-playable (if you'd like to win regularly) at this point, as many have stated. But I disagree with the idea that the remedy for this is creating a bunch of powerful Priest cards. The class works the way it was designed to. But because so many other classes are able to maximize speed and power so easily right now, Priest can't compete. Reliance on healing and developing your hand with other class's cards takes too long in the current meta. Its minion curve potential also is weak compared to other classes that have explosive damage and rapid board control.

The solution isn't to create a "Reverend Boom" card, it's to bring some of those OP classes back in line by phasing out and/or nerfing their over-used cards.

If you look at some of the announced cards for the new expansion, it's clear, however, that Bliz is mainly looking to counter the current, trite meta decks by adding more and more RNG. That's just lazy game design and it makes for less and less options for real strategy in deck building. RNG cards can sometimes be fun, but they won't get you far on the ladder, and they're the bane of everyone's existence in Arena.

It's great to see Bliz recognizing a weak card and banning it Arena. I hope they'll look at other classes from the opposite view and remove cards that have enabled the meta to become so imbalanced and stale in the first place.
