Hello!
My name is Joe Robinson – I am the new Editor-in-Chief of Pocket Tactics & Wargamer.com
First off, I know the past couple of weeks have been confusing and there hasn’t been much from official channels – let me begin by apologising for that.
Now that I’m here, there’s going to be a lot more communication going forward. If you have any questions, concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
Who I Am / Why I’m Here
You probably won’t know me, but I’ve been in the video-game industry since 2oo7/8. The first six years were spent as a writer, mainly working for websites such as Strategyinformer.com (Now known as GameWatcher), and I’ve also written for Rock,Paper,Shotgun and PCGamesN. For a stint I was Deputy Editor and Marketing Manager for Strategy Informer, so I’ve run websites before.
For the past two years I’ve been in Videogames PR, mainly working on eSports and Ent-Tech clients – Riot Games, Super Evil Megacorp, Faeria… It was different, it was fun.
But my experience and a lot of personal passion lies in strategy games, and I’m very much looking forward to taking up this new role. Just in case this hasn’t been made clear already, Wargamer & Pocket Tactics are part of the Slitherine Group, and based out of the group’s headquarters in the UK.
I can assure you I have complete editorial control. I wouldn’t have taken this job if that wasn’t on the table, but I’m well aware of the questions that a dynamic like this can raise. You don’t need to worry about it though – I got this.
Ultimately, In order for these websites to succeed and survive, there needs to be an Editor-in-Chief at the helm overseeing everything. We are fortunate to be part of a larger group which can provide a certain degree of stability and financial security for both websites which allows us to focus on what’s important – the content.
My mandate is to both steer the two websites in terms of editorial and direction, but also to control the financial management through advertising and other ventures. I intend to take full advantage of these unique circumstances for the benefit of you guys, the readers.
Going Forward
For the next couple of weeks, things are going to continue pretty much as they are. I need to sync with all the writers still around, I need to get settled into my position here and I need to get some planning in place. Content will continue to be sporadic for a bit, so please bear with us.
I have ideas for both websites going forward, including the mystery third website. I don’t want to try and turn these places into something they’re not, but I do feel there’s room to grow, room to expand, and I will try and talk more about my vision over the coming weeks. I’m very excited, to say the least.
I will want to hear from you guys though – what you want for the sites, what drew them to you in the first place, etc… you guys were here first after all, so your viewpoint is important.
