It’s a great time to be a fan of foldable phones. We were already anticipating Samsung’s next generation of Galaxy Z phones, set to be unveiled next week, and now, Honor has joined in on the action by teasing its next flagship foldable, the Magic V3.
A set of images leaked on Weibo yesterday showed the design of two new Honor foldable phones, the Magic V3 and the Magic Vs3. Then, just a few hours later, Honor posted its own teaser, confirming the design of the V3.
The Honor Magic V2 is already the slimmest large-format folding phone that you can buy, but Honor is one-upping itself and making the Magic V3 even slimmer. If you love a big screen but hate having a bulky and heavy device in your pocket, this is certainly one to watch.
The Honor Magic V3 and Vs3 will launch in China on July 12, just two days after Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event. There’s no word on whether these phones will launch globally, but given that the V2 made its way to Europe, we’ve got our fingers crossed. Hopefully, the turnaround is a bit quicker this time, too.
We still don’t know much about the specifications, but Honor has given us a pretty good look at the design. The V3 is shown with an orange-ish vegan leather rear panel and has golden accents on the frame and camera bezel. Of course, Honor has shown the device in its side profile, too, and it looks slimmer than a lot of flagship candy bar phones, impressive stuff.
The cameras take a triangular formation, just like the Magic 6 Pro, and it appears that we’ll be seeing a fairly sizable periscope telephoto on this model, as evidenced by the large square aperture on the uppermost lens. The cameras are housed in a circular raised platform which has a hexagonal bezel around the edge, it definitely stands out from the crowd.
Honor has yet to share images of the Vs3, but some of its Weibo posts contain the hashtag #MagicVs3, so it’s safe to say it’s on the way. The Vs3 is expected to be a more affordable alternative to the V3 with cut-back specifications in a similarly slim chassis. Leaked images show a black vegan leather rear and another unique centrally-placed camera array, with a sort of cropped square in a circular housing. It’s sure to be a divisive design.
We’re looking forward to learning more on July 12, but in the meantime, why not check out how the clamshell competition compares with our guide to the best flip phones?
