Knowing how to evolve Charcadet is important if you want to get two of the most powerful Pokémon in Paldea. That’s right, two. There are two Charcadet evolutions, and each one is exclusive to one of the two games; Armarouge is in Scarlet, while Ceruledge is in Violet. These two look intimidating in the best way if you ask us, being reminiscent of Mega Man with all that armor.
We have to admit that Paldea is one of the most beautiful Pokémon regions to explore, and if you need some help getting to grips with things in the latest generation of Pokémon, our Pokémon Scarlet and Violet legendaries, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet multiplayer, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet mystery gift codes, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet shiny Pokémon guides are full of useful information.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to evolve Charcadet:
How to evolve Charcadet
The method for evolving Charcadet is pretty similar for both Armarouge and Ceruledge, as we explain in more detail below, walking you through all of the steps, as you need to go on a quest. However, unless you have a friend to trade with, there’s no way you can get both of the evolutions.
Where can I catch Charcadet?
You can find Charcadet is in the following locations:
- South Province – Area Three, Area Four, and Area Five
- East Province – Area One, Area Two, Area Three, and Tagtree Thicket
- West Province – Area One, Area Two, Area Three, and Asado Desert
- Tera Raid battles
Pokéballs are typically all you need, especially in the first few areas of the game. If you don’t encounter a Charcadet until a bit later in your journey, you’ll likely need to use a great ball instead.
How do I evolve Charcadet into Armarouge in Pokémon Scarlet?
In Pokémon Scarlet, you need to get yourself a Charcadet and head to Zapacico, a city in the Eastern region of Paldea. Make your way to the middle of the town; you’ll see a man standing next to the fountain. Once you speak to him, he offers to give you the auspicious armor item in exchange for ten Bronzor fragments. Getting your hands on those is simple enough: Bronzor appears in ruins, of which there are plenty spread throughout the region.
Once you get the ten Bronzor fragments, return to the man to complete the trade; now, all you need to do is give the auspicious armor to Charcadet, and it’ll evolve in Armarouge. Alternatively, you can take your chances and try to find Armarouge wandering around in the South Province, though it’s a very rare sight and absolutely requires you to have some ultra balls. You might also get lucky and stumble across Armarouge in a six-star terra raid battle.
How do I evolve Charcadet into Ceruledge in Pokémon Violet?
As for Pokémon Violet, you still need to make your way to Zapcico after you get a Charcadet. However, there isn’t a man standing at the fountain; it’s a woman. Upon speaking to her, she offers you a trade: her malicious armor item in exchange for ten Sinistea chips. While it’s basically the same as Scarlet at its core, Sinistea is a rarer Pokémon than Bronzor, meaning it can take longer to get the chips. Your best bet is to head to the city of Alfornada, the main place in which Sinistea roams.
The city of Alfornada is on the bottom left of Paldea and is difficult to reach until you unlock all of Koraidon or Miraidon’s abilities. We recommend that you either unlock all abilities or enter Alfornada through the cave to the north of the city once you and your Pokémon are comfortably over level 40. Then grab ten Sinistea chips and swap them with the woman in Zapacico for the malicious armor. Give this to Charcadet to evolve it into Ceruledge.
We have bad news for you if all of that sounds like too much effort; you can’t bump into Ceruledge in the open world. Unlike Armarouge, you can only get this Charcadet evolution if you complete the trade and get the malicious armor. Actually, you might get extremely lucky and encounter one in a six-star terra raid battle, but that is an exceedingly rare occurrence.
How do I get both Charcadet evolutions?
Once you nab Armarouge or Ceruledge in Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, respectively, it‘s difficult to grab the other evolution to complete the Pokédex, but not impossible. The easiest way is to trade and if you have a friend with the opposing version, this is a great way to both fill up the Pokédex and get the other Charcadet evolution as well as those pesky Pokémon Scarlet and Violet paradox Pokémon.
Alternatively, if your friends all buy the same version of Pokémon as you (Violet for the win), it’s time to hop into Pokémon Scarlet and Violet tera raid battles as your next move. However, exploring Paldea and interacting with tera crystals only allows you to find Pokémon native to your version of the game, so you need to join an online raid by following these instructions:
- From anywhere in the overworld, press start to open the menu
- Press L to connect to the internet
- Once online, select the Poké Portal option
- Click on tera raid battle
- If you see the silhouette of the Pokémon you need, join the raid
- If not, wait until the ‘check for new postings’ button lights up
- Keep checking for new postings until you see the Pokémon you want
- Defeat the raid
- Catch Armarouge or Cereludge
- Enjoy your Pokémon!
How do I evolve Charcadet in Pokémon Go?
You need 50 candies and to beat 30 psychic-types with Charcadet as your buddy to evolve it into Armarouge. Or, to evolve Charcadet into Ceruledge, you need 50 candies and must defeat 30 ghost-types instead. It’s worth noting that you just need Charcadet as your buddy. It doesn’t need to win the battles itself.
Armarouge or Ceruledge
Honestly, both of Charcadet’s evolutions are worthy of a spot on your team, but if it’s pure attack capability that you’re after, we recommend you pick up Violet or trade with a pal to get Ceruledge. However, if you care more about your defensive stats, consider Armarouge instead.
