It’s official, the upcoming Huawei tri-fold phone launch is coming on the same day as the big iPhone 16 revealIt’s a bold move from the Chinese tech company, but Richard Yu, Huawei Executive Direction, recently claimed that “Huawei’s most leading, innovative and disruptive product is here!” Disruptive might be the name of the game, especially since this exciting tri-foldable phone is going to market at the same time as one of the most anticipated flagship devices from one of the biggest brands on the planet.
Yu went on to say that the Huawei tri-foldable phone “is an epoch-making product that others have thought of but cannot make. After five years of persistence and investment, we have turned science fiction into reality.” We’ve also seen leaker Ice Universe post a promo image for the upcoming Extraordinary Brand Ceremony and the Hongmeng Intelligent Driving New Product Launch Conference, where we’re expecting the debut of the world’s first tri-fold smartphone and potentially the best foldable phone of 2024.
The Huawei event is on September 10, but thanks to timezones, this coincides perfectly with Apple’s iPhone 16 launch event on September 9. This means we have two major reveals all in one day, and it definitely seems as though Huawei has purposefully organized its event to compete with Apple. It also means Huawei is on track to beat Samsung to launch the first triple foldable, with reports suggesting that the Korean brand has spent much of 2024 racing to develop its own tri-fold handset.
We’ve heard rumors of the Huawei device costing a mind-boggling $4000, but don’t have any confirmed information before the reveal event. If it does end up with that massive a price tag, it will be interesting to see if it can still compete with market leaders. With Apple gearing up to launch not just the iPhone 16, but the Series 10 Apple Watch and fourth-generation Apple AirPods, we’re not entirely sure whether Huawei’s tri-fold smartphone will be able to reach the heights it seems so confident of hitting.
Not only is the Huawei tri-fold the first device of its kind to arrive on the market, but it might also be the first from the brand without access to Android apps. Huawei has been slowly moving away from Android code and plans to leave the Google system behind completely with the next version of its HarmonyOS operating system. So, no matter how impressive this thing might be, we’re unlikely to see it on our list of the best Android phones.
