New iPhone update is here to stop you from deleting games for good

Don’t delete CODM or Honkai Star Rail just yet, this new iPhone update is coming to solve your iOS storage woes with a simple fix.

It doesn't take long to consume all your iPhone storage, whether that's by storing endless reaction memes or with your favorite games eating up your space. It's even worse when there's a new iPhone update looming, as it comes down to deciding whether Call of Duty: Mobile, Zenless Zone Zero, or Delta Force is sent to the abyss. Thankfully, Apple seemingly has a trick up its sleeve for iOS 26.

In the latest release notes from Apple for the iOS 26 beta, it reveals that the smartphone giant is launching a new storage system that automatically reserves space for forthcoming updates. While we've seen forms of smart storage in the past, specifically with identifying what types of media are swallowing up your iPhone, this could save you plenty of headaches when it comes to conserving all your favorites from our guide to the best iPhone games.

"Depending on the amount of free space available, iOS might dynamically reserve update space for automatic updates to download and install successfully," Apple's latest blog post clarifies. It's an intriguing feature that could solve any future headaches, but the strange thing is that Apple hasn't described how it works. The release notes also don't reveal how the minimum amount of storage is set aside to accommodate future iOS updates, either.

Of course, iPhone updates vary in size, but a ballpark estimate is surely achievable for Apple to deploy. Presumably, this feature will notify users when Apple plans to reserve space on their devices, but again, this is also left unanswered. If Apple can iron out these creases, I think this feature could be a massive boon, especially when it comes to new mobile games.

I've recently been checking out Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, a sizable action game that requires at least 10GB to install. Pair that with seasonal updates for Call of Duty: Mobile and other titles, and my iPhone storage is already struggling. But hopefully not for much longer.
