Could Apple drop FineWoven cases ahead of iPhone 16 launch?

If the iPhone 16 launch announcement doesn’t feature FineWoven cases, we won’t miss their subpar quality and inflated price.

The iPhone 16 launch could mark the end for Apple’s FineWoven cases, according to a new report. The controversial product line’s stock levels are at an all-time low, suggesting either its imminent demise or a switch to a new color palette, though this second option is significantly less likely given the FineWoven case’s history of bad press.

With the iPhone 16’s launch just around the corner, new information from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman says that Apple might kill off the unpopular FineWoven phone cases. These products replaced the company’s old leather cases at the iPhone 15’s launch as they are more sustainable and cheaper to produce, but the cost-cutting measure didn’t affect the price for the consumer. Worse still, reviews suggested that the FineWoven products were by no means the best iPhone cases.

However, as an Apple product, they at least had the advantage of launching alongside the flagship phone, giving you a chance to protect your device from day one. Tom’s Guide previously reported that Apple was halting production on the FineWoven line back in April, which further points to a pivot in its accessory strategy.

While we can’t recommend any specific iPhone 16 cases just yet, we usually advise against buying Apple’s accessories anyway. However, with just under a week until the iPhone 16 launch, brands like Mous, Otterbox, and Casetify will likely debut their accompanying case lines soon after. Alternatively, maybe Apple will pivot back to the beloved leather cases for the new flagships? It certainly seems like there’s a demand for it.

Either way, with the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max set to become the best gaming iPhones, you’ll need some decent protection for your new device. It’s no use having a bigger display with an improved refresh rate if you find yourself accidentally dropping the thing and smashing the screen.
