We’re all eager to see how the iPhone 16 Pro battery compares to older models. After all, our phones handle a huge amount of battery-burning tasks every day – especially if you’re using the higher-specced Pro models. As the iPhone 16 Pro draws closer to launch, a new Apple rumor has claimed that the smartphone’s battery upgrade will be significant, and will undoubtedly become a huge highlight for iOS users.
In a recent report from iPhone 16 leaker Instant Digital, via Tom’s Guide, the forthcoming Apple device is reportedly set to benefit from an almost 10% increase in battery life over the iPhone 15 Pro. Specifically, the iPhone 16 Pro will utilize a 3,577mAh cell, as opposed to the 15 Pro’s smaller 3,274mAh cell.
That means you’ll be getting extra juice to play around with the iPhone 16 Pro camera upgrade, while enjoying potentially one of the slimmest bezels yet on an iPhone. These upgrades could end up making the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max serious contenders for one of the best gaming phones of the year.
It’s also claimed that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will receive a boost as well, jumping up from 4,422mAh to a 4,676mAh cell. However, the percentage increase will be lower at just under 5%. While Apple has continued to refine each iPhone’s battery capabilities over the years, we’ve all faced difficulties getting the most of our devices.
That’s especially true when it comes to the advent of triple-A games hitting newer iPhone models. Getting some of the best mobile games such as Death Stranding, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, and Resident Evil 4 to run scaled down iterations of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S titles can be taxing.
So, how is Apple making these meaningful leaps in power possible? Well, when the iPhone 15 was still being developed there were rumors of Apple experimenting with stacked batteries. These are denser than the average battery in one of the best 5G phones. Stacked batteries give you the benefit of a bigger capacity, but at the cost of running hotter.
This battery technology also means that welcome features such as faster charging are at risk of slowing down, due to the larger battery density. If this improvement doesn’t arrive with the iPhone 16, maybe Apple is tinkering with it for other models, such as the iPhone foldable. However, a new addition to the best Samsung phones out there might beat Apple to the punch, as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is rumored to make similar strides for better battery performance.
