Despite the performance capabilities of the latest Apple premium handsets, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, it's no secret that a lot of us prefer to use our phones to play retro games rather than the likes of Honkai Star Rail and PUBG Mobile. If that includes you, you might want to check out the Bitmo Lab Gamebaby case, which, as the name suggests, is an iPhone case in the style of the iconic Nintendo Game Boy.
While the Gamebaby is nothing new, with Bitmo Lab releasing similar cases for the last two generations of Apple smartphones, it's now available for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the current top pick from our guide to the best iPhones. It's a pretty simple concept in that the bottom half of the case is flippable, so you've got a Game Boy-style controller on the back that comes round to the front whenever you want to settle in for a bit of gaming.
Bitmo Lab revealed the latest version of the Gamebaby via X, but we haven't gotten an idea of when the case might launch yet or its retail price. That said, both the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro Max versions are currently listed for $39.99 on the official Bitmo site, so it's fair to assume that the new version will launch at around the same price point.
In terms of the case itself, there are now two colorways to choose from: yellow or a slightly more understated white that looks a lot like the original Game Boy. The new version also features a slight change to the d-pad, which is now made up of four independent buttons rather than a single unit. We'll have to get our hands on it to see if it truly offers the "authentic" experience that Bitmo Lab claims it does, but it certainly looks the part.

Funnily enough, the Gamebaby isn't the only Game Boy-inspired phone case we've seen in recent months. Following the launch of the Xiaomi 17 Pro in China, the tech brand introduced the Xiaomi 17 Series Retro Game Case, which, despite its slightly less catchy name, is another great accessory for fans of retro games. Unfortunately, though, Xiaomi doesn't release its products in the US, so it's a lot more difficult to get your hands on them.
