Legends of Runeterra, the League of Legends card game, has launched a whole day early on mobile, and you can grab it right now across the globe on iOS and Android. Riot is clearly on a mission to beat Blizzard at its own game, literally, as it draws a lot of inspiration from the likes of Hearthstone.
It’s free-to-play and you earn cards by simply playing. Need a specific card to perfect your deck? You can purchase that from the store. There are no random card packs to purchase with your real cash in Legends of Runeterra, and there won’t ever be.
You craft a deck out of a wide variety of cards, each of which comes from one of six different regions. Regions behave similarly to classes in Hearthstone, providing a variety of different play styles, and you can combine cards from different regions to create your own strategy. More regions will follow after launch too, so there’s plenty of scope to develop new strategies as Legends of Runeterra matures.
You also pick a champion to bring into battle with you, which is an extremely powerful card that you’ll likely build your deck around. There are 24 champions in total at launch, with each one hailing from one of the different regions. You’ll recognise these heroes if you’ve played League of Legends before.
There’s a wide variety of content to tackle too, including expeditions, which allow you to explore the regions of Runeterra, adding cards to your deck, and multiplayer. Want to prove you’re the best? Ranked mode gives you an opportunity to do just that.
Legends of Runeterra is out right now across the globe on mobile, and you can grab it from the App Store or Google Play.
