How do I unlock more Mario Kart World karts?

Beyond the default vehicles, you unlock one random Mario Kart World kart every time you collect 100 coins from races. You can collect coins in any of the game modes, so it's easy to rack them up, but it takes quite a long time to unlock all of the karts - so you'd better get racing!

The best Mario Kart World karts

The best Mario Kart World kart really depends on your personal preference and what character you like to play as, as each kart and character combination has a completely different feel. We highly recommend trying out the different vehicles in Mario Kart World's free roam mode to see which one suits you and your favorite driver best.

However, if you're still looking for something to get you on the right track, here are our  picks of the best Mario Kart World karts:

Standard Kart

You can't go wrong with a standard option. Mario's ride or die since day one, the standard kart offers good stats across the board and will see you zooming over the finish line in no time. It's back again after appearing in previous Mario Kart entries like Wii and 8.

mario kart world karts - a look at the in-game menu showing Mario in the Roadster Royale

Roadster Royale

New for Mario Kart World is the Roadster Royale. It's a pretty car with a pink design, inspired by none other than Princess Peach. But don't let it fool you, this car can get some speed going. Fun fact, it changes color based on who uses it - Daisy gets an orange paint job, for instance.

Stellar Sled

While the regular karts are fun, we're partial to an ATV - an all-terrain vehicle - now and then, especially now that Mario Kart World lets you drive pretty much anywhere. The Stellar Sled has fancy golden skis, allowing you to glide around. It packs plenty of speed into the build, along with good weight to stop you being bashed around too much.

mario kart world karts - a character driving the Big Horn cart in a race

Big Horn

Our new favorite character in the game is the cow, so naturally, we love the Big Horn kart that is almost certainly made for the cow herself. It has horns. It's got a golden nose ring. It looks excellent, and handles just as well, though it can be a little tough getting around those tight corners!

Rally Bike

Simple but reliable, the Rally Bike is a default vehicle that has well-balanced stats and works well across the board. We especially like using this one with medium-weight characters like Luigi and Peach.

mario kart world karts - Peach riding four different karts including the Billdozer

Billdozer

As the name suggests, the Billdozer is themed around the Bullet Bill, a classic Mario enemy. Specifically, the Bomber version that has a mouth and flames coming out of its back end… for extra speed on the track. I love this design. I also love the Bullet Bill item that lets you zoom past your opponents, so maybe I'm just hoping it lets me do the same.

Bumble V

Bees. Everyone loves bees. And what better way to intimidate opponents on the road than with a kart equipped with a huge, metal stinger at the front? We recommend driving the Bumble V (get it, like a bumble bee?) as Stingby for the full experience. Oh, and its stats are good, too.

mario kart world karts - Pauline hovering above a bike with its wings out in mid air

Mach Rocket

Moving back to bikes, we're looking at the Mach Rocket. Wanna go fast and do it in style? This is the vehicle for you. It seems to follow the same theme as the Mach Bike from Mario Kart Wii, but with a more modern design. It's a very light bike, though, so make sure you use the acceleration it offers to get away from other racers.

mario kart world karts - Bowser riding the Bowser Bruiser, a four wheeled ATV

Bowser Bruiser

Another brand new addition to the Mario Kart World lineup is the Bowser Bruiser. It's an ATV and, you guessed it, resembles Bowser and his aesthetics. ATVs are a little thin on the ground in the game, with this being one of a handful of current vehicles. It also appears to replace the Standard ATV, as that's not included in the roster. The Bruiser is the only ATV with four wheels and uses them all to offer good stats across the board, especially speed.

Tune Thumper

Who'd have thought a tiny bike made from a stereo would be so good? The Tune Thumper offers really high acceleration and great handling, meaning you can zip around corners with ease and zoom past the competition. It's a new vehicle for the World, and we're thoroughly enjoying it.

mario kart world karts setup - two characters in the same kind of kart with different stats

Are there Mario Kart World setups?

There are no setups in Mario Kart World, as there are no different components for you to switch out. However, as we mentioned above, different characters can affect the stats of certain karts - large, medium, and small types can alter a kart's speed, overall performance, and handling quite dramatically.

And that's everything you need to know about all the Mario Kart World karts and vehicles.
