Do you love rumors like we do? Well, buckle up, because this latest theory could reveal the Nintendo Switch 2 release date. We’re admittedly grasping at straws for any information as the wait until Nintendo’s official launch is getting painful.
YouTuber ThunderStash posted a long explanation on X as to why they think the Nintendo Switch 2 is releasing on May 15, 2025. The date does seem a little close, especially as we only get a good look at the console on April 2 during the next Nintendo Direct, but there are some intriguing points to consider.
ThunderStash begins explaining why May 15 is the “perfect” release date by confirming none of this comes from ‘insider sources’ or leaks, “just logic, patterns, and solid research.” To be fair, May 15 is already a big day for Nintendo with the release of the Mario Kart Lego and the official opening of the Nintendo store in San Francisco, so adding another giant event may not be feasible.
These events make up part of the theory. What better way to kick-start a store than with a brand-new console release at the same time? The Mario Kart Lego won’t be there, though, as it’s releasing exclusively on the Lego site before going public in later months.
Other key points include the Doom: The Dark Ages release date being on May 15 as well, and considering the fact that Doom and Nintendo are a classic match, why not launch this on the Switch 2? There are no current plans to bring it to a Nintendo console, but some rumors suggest it’ll make its way over.

We also know that there are Nintendo Switch 2 test events in April and May. Public sign-ups for events in New York, London, Paris, and more went live in January and promised a hands-on go with the new console. There is a break between areas, though – ThunderStash points out a 20-day long break before events resume on May 31 in Seoul. Hmm, how odd that events stop on May 11, just before… May 15. The significance of Seoul here is that the area got a delayed release of the first Switch in 2017, so it may see a similar delay with the Switch 2.
We suggest having a proper read through the post and making your own mind up as to whether you subscribe, but we’re on board – though with a pinch of salt so we don’t get too disappointed if it doesn’t happen.
So, what do you think? Are you eager to see what’s in the next Nintendo Direct, like possibly a new Mario game and a fresh look at the new Pokémon game? We can barely contain our excitement.
