Amid all the chaos at The Game Awards, a new port is coming for the winner of the 'Games for Impact' category: South of Midnight will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 in the spring of 2026.
The action-adventure game draws on folklore for its surroundings and enemies, along with stop-motion style animation and an impressively reactive combat system. Its gameplay mechanics also encapsulate its themes, highly important issues, like generational trauma caused by systemic racism. It's a worthy winner for the award, and it's worthy of playing on your Switch 2, as well.
Set in a version of the deep south of the US, you play as Hazel, who must become a Weaver, which is someone who repairs broken spirits and the bonds between them. You meet friends, foes, and creatures along the way, and maybe you'll eventually start to call this supernatural world your own.
We love that the developers chose to announce this in their acceptance speech, especially since the port means that the game's important message will reach more players. The developer of South of Midnight, Compulsion Games, is a subsidiary of Xbox, so it was unclear whether the game would make it to other consoles after its release in April 2025.
You'll want to pick up this game for the Switch 2 when it arrives in the Spring. As of yet, we don't have a confirmed release date, but more details will follow soon for the port of this award-winning game.
