reall bummer to be honest. im gonna keep it cause its adorable but i dont wanna play the mini game that much.

i havent actually run it but ive heard the games on the rereleases are harder cause theres no pattern. its actually just random which means you have to play it a ton more AND snacks kill it. it also seems like the hardware wears out realy quickly which is a lot of why i havent run it.

i wish bandai cared more about quality as much as they do making a quick buck on our nostalgia. theyre a gigantic company and generate a huge amount of sales from tamagotchis theres no reason other than laziness and greed to not deliver a quality product.

save your money up and get a discounted Pix or Pix Party instead! its in full color, theres a lot of minigames, theres an option to send it to the sitter for work/school hours, its customizable, and theres a lot more tamas to raise altho it doesnt have any of the quirky older tamas thats really the only downside to the Pix.

It's amazing and EXACTLY as I remember from the 90s!! Mine is currently a teen, it chills next to me most of the day while I'm working. Every few hours, it needs about 5mins of my time. It sleeps about 11hrs. Screen, buttons, sounds work beautifully.

Now... the bad reviews are entirely user error. First, this is a 90s replica toy. This is made for those of us that had and loved the original and WANT the original. If you want a fancy updated one, this is NOT for you. Go get the pix one. This isn't some fancy back lit screen, smart pet thing. It's a nostalgic toy, and yes... you have to hold it at an angle for the screen to be -perfectly- clear. But it's easily visible no matter what angle or light it's in. Second, it's not "impossible to keep alive", it's only a baby for 5min, and a child for 65min. Thats it. After that, it needs attention every few hours and it sleeps for around 10-12hrs nightly depending on age. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS for goodness sake. The buttons are perfect for the shape and need to be -pressed down-, not tapped like a smart phone. I'm shocked by the amount of people holding this 90s toy to 2022 standards lmao, y'all crazy. Go download the emulator app and stop bombing reviews because you didn't read well enough.

I bought this for my daughter because I wanted her to experience the nostalgia of my childhood in the 90s. She loved it for a little bit and grew bored of it and then gifted it to a dear friend of hers that lives in the neighborhood and went to school with her before we moved away as a parting gift.

I still have my old original Tamagotchi from the 90s (the green on in the pictures) and when I heard there was a re-release I just had to grab myself another one! Although very alike here are the things I’ve discovered between the old and the new:

•The newer remake is faster in button response (by like a split second but noticeable enough) which is quite nice.
•The battery in the remake is just one CR203, where as the older version took two LR44s.
•The size and shell shapes are nearly identical aside from the back battery panel.
•Last but not least, the newer one has a polarized screen (for sun protection). It’s only noticeable when I’m wearing my sunglasses. It makes it hard to see at the Tamagochi and menus on the screen - I have to remove my sunglasses to see the new remake’s screen.

Overall I love the remake and it brings back so many memories! I purchased the 25th anniversary edition and absolutely love the iridescent/mainly purple clear shell!! I would certainly recommend to anyone who would love to have a blast from the past.

My love for virtual pets from the 90's was re-ignited when I bought bandai's 20th anniversary re-issue of the original Digimon V-pet, which was literally Bandai's attempt to make a Tamagotchi marketed toward boys. I never personally felt like the toys were gendered so I loved them both as a kid.

Well the Digimon re-issue had a high bar to clear, as it added tons of new features. You could battle AI foes. You could raise two digimon at the same time. You could choose from all of the different versions of the original digimon release giving you five times the number of digimon than the original release had, plus some new ones as well. You could also put your Digimon down for a 3 hour nap in case you were busy. This was all very unexpected to me and made it a much bigger value than I expected. I

Well, being owned by the same company, I had high expectations for the Tamagotchi re-release. I don't think this is unreasonable, as the original Digimon is literally just a Tamgotchi with a multi-player battle mode. I was unfortunately let down. This is a perfect replica of the original 90's Tamagotchi. The casual buyer won't know this, but the original Tamagotchi comes in two versions, P1 and P2, and they both have completely different critters available on it, as well as a different mini-game. You can tell a P1 and a P2 apart because P1 will have checkered background, and P2 will have a wavy background. So you better know which one you want, or intend to buy them both, because you can't have both on one device. I don't know if this was done for the sake of being faithful for nostalgia sake, but I can't imagine there's that many purists who would bemoan some quality of life improvements for the modern age.

To be fair, the Digimon pet was released in 2019 while the Tamagotchi came two years earlier, but I don't think that's an excuse. After all, a few years prior to that they had released a mobile phone remake of the original Tamagotchi that allowed you to choose between P1 and P2, and had an enhanced color mode that was completely free. They have since discontinued this app because it failed to give the results they were hoping for, which was to promote a fashion line, believe it or not.

If you're absolutely itching for a classic digital pet experience, I'd recommend grabbing a 2019 Digimon while they're expensive. A much better value. But if you want the authentic 90's Tamagotchi experience, then this is basically the exact same as the old virtual pet that swept the world... they start off as needy little babies demanding undivided attention, and depending on how well you raise them, they'll either grow to become less needy, and stay healthy. For the record, you can't let their hearts dip below 2 empty hearts, or they'll evolve into the less desirable, more needy, sickness prone adults. You also can't ever give them sweets, as their weight will also lower their chances of evolving into self sufficient adults... really the only challenge in these things is getting over the super needy first three stages without letting it beep to get your attention.

That's another negative, these little guys are loud. There is no volume settings, just mute, or loud. I don't remember Tamagotchis being as loud as this.

I don't regret buying this thing, and I may end up buying another so I can have both P1 and P2, just for the sake of completing my small collection of virtual pets. But I think I may not come back to this one very soon after it's batteries dry up. I'm not entirely sure what the battery life is on these things but I heard some people have had to replace them as soon as three days after buying, and that's DEFINITELY not the Tamagotchi I remember, those little guys could go on for months.

I do have to say that if you don't have a lot of free time, or you are easily distracted, don't buy this for yourself. Those first three stages require you to vigilantly check on it, and if you can't do that, it's not going to become easier in the adult stage, and certainly won't evolve into the secret stage. I also won't recommend this to children with attention issues, it's a bit dated for today's kids and is likely to distract kids when they shouldn't be playing with gadgets, and get neglected when something more interesting is in their grasp. This is more of a nostalgic novelty or a collector's item for virtual pet enthusiasts. And I can't state again, best bang for your buck when it comes to virtual pet nostalgia is the 2019 Digimon.

This will ruin your life. It never turns off and will not stop crying for attention. You can pause the time, but as soon as you resume, it will haunt you all night with its cries of terror. Just because it's hungry and surrounded by its own feces. I have never met anything this needy, and I work with children.

(This is a great toy and captures the nostalgia of the original very well. It works amazing and it's well made)
