As with every other adventure, the Pokémon Winds and Waves starters are incredibly important. You have three to choose from, and the one you go with will more than likely determine the course of your team; they certainly determine how easy or difficult things are for you in the opening hours of your adventure.
Because of that, it's a decision to take lightly, but as the Pokémon Winds and Waves release date isn't until 2027, you have plenty of time to acquaint yourself with the new starter Pokémon to see who might be the best fit for you.
Right, let's take a look at the Pokémon Winds and Waves starters.
Pokémon Winds and Waves starters
There are three starters to choose from in Winds and Waves, with us catching a glimpse of each of them during the February 2026 Pokémon Presents.

Browt
Up first, we have the new grass-type starter Browt. This little guy is a bird, and it's fair to say that it's cute in a 'I'm trying to look tough and angry' sort of way. Birds in the franchise typically end up with a majestic final evolution (not always, but most of the time), so here's hoping Browt's final stage can rival the likes of Corviknight and Talonflame.

Pombon
I would die for this pup. I'm not exaggerating, I already feel a certain sense of camaraderie with the fire-type starter, so there's no doubt that this is the Pokémon I'll be starting my adventure with. Just look at that adorable little face, it's so fluffy with lovely little eyes and a happy face.

Gecqua
Every generation has its dud, and I'm already thinking that for Winds and Waves, it's Gecqua. The water-type is giving me some early Inteleon vibes, and I have no problem saying I don't need a repeat of that god-awful creature - it's a stain on an otherwise good generation if you ask me. Sorry, Gecqua, I don't have a good first impression of you. Do better.
While we don't know anything about their evolutions just yet, we'll update this guide as soon as that information is available.
