Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 hit us in October 2021 and was instantly the most viral game around. Online, there were comparisons to FNAF and the Bendy series, and clips circulated of YouTubers and streamers getting half scared to death. The game has evolved since then in its second to fourth chapters, and it looks like we need to buckle in again for Poppy Playtime Chapter 5 - and the ride begins now. It's officially coming in 2026, and the developer, Mob Entertainment, is teasing us with a trailer and some spine-tingling details.
What we know based on this announcement is that we'll be going even further into the factory - which will presumably entail a visit to the Labs. I don't like the sound of this much, but with Huggy Wuggy freshly on our tails, it seems like we'll have no choice. Inside, we'll meet shadows and scares, but crucially, we're finally going to meet the puppet master behind the gruesome events and uncover the secrets we've been eager to uncover from the last years of Poppy Playtime.
Yep, that's right - this is a hint towards finding out the identities of some of the major Poppy Playtime characters, including the Prototype and, of course, the player. This would suggest that some of the major story elements are wrapping up in Chapter 5. Rumors are flying that this will be the final Poppy Playtime chapter, and most episodic games end after the five-chapter arc, so it would make sense, but at this stage, we don't know. I could easily see an epilogue chapter or two, if not a spin-off game.
Neither of Mob Entertainment's co-founders confirm or deny whether it's the finale. "Chapter 5 marks a major step forward for the Poppy Playtime franchise. It pushes our storytelling and gameplay to new heights," says Zach Belanger, the CEO of the game's developing studio. "Beyond adding new scares, it expands the world of Playtime Co. and delivers an experience that will stay with fans long after they've finished playing".
Co-founder and CCO Seth Belanger adds, "From the visuals to the atmosphere to the way scares are delivered, every detail has been pushed further to create an experience that feels both stunning and terrifying. Fans are going to see just how much we've evolved since the last chapter". It seems like the chapter will pull out all the stops. These words sound like a preparation for something huge, so it could well end the story we're following, even if another one ends up emerging in the same universe. Either way, the legacy of the game will hinge on whether Chapter 5 sticks the landing.
Chapter 5 is now officially available to wishlist on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and we're hoping the Nintendo Switch and mobile versions will catch up very soon. Given the game is rumored to launch in January, hopefully, this will be soon. You can find out where to wishlist Chapter 5, and stay in-touch directly with the dev, from Mob Entertainment's website. There's also an official Poppy Playtime Discord server if you fancy that, and we'll be chattering about it over on the Pocket Tactics Discord, too.
