Despite the impressive power of the Nintendo Switch 2, there is still a long way to go before all your favorite last-gen titles work on it. Backwards compatibility is a huge feature for the handheld, but as you may know, a few beloved games refuse to play ball with the Switch 2. Luckily, there's a fresh batch of recently fixed titles, including Resident Evil 4.
Unless you own a Steam Deck or ROG Xbox Ally, though, it's worth noting that this version of the game is a port of the original. That means upscaled textures and other fixes, but mostly the same experience your PlayStation 2 gave you all those years ago. If you're a purist when it comes to revisiting older games, then this is probably the ideal version to play. However, I will say Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake is excellent, and I'd love to see that get the Nintendo Switch 2 treatment.
According to Nintendo's backwards compatibility tracker, Resident Evil 4 is part of a mass patch for several games, which went live on December 9, 2025. The page for RE4 notes that it is officially supported as "game behavior is consistent with the Nintendo Switch." There isn't much more detail to glean from the page, though. I'd like these notes to be somewhat more in-depth or at least akin to the Steam Deck verification. But a win is a win, after all.
Not only is the fourth Resident Evil game working on the handheld, but it's also heavily discounted on the Nintendo eShop. You can pick up Resident Evil 4 for $9.99/£7.99 right now, thanks to a huge 50% discount. I mean, you should already own it to be honest, but I'll let you off if you haven't played it before. Should that be the case, then I'd say it's great for setting you up for Leon Kennedy's return in Resident Evil Requiem.

Leon didn't pop up in Resident Evil Village, so it's great to see his karate kicking, pistol-whipping antics back in action. If you're curious what other games are working with the Switch 2 now, here's a quick rundown, as spotted by Nintendo Everything.
- Blade of Darkness
- Game Dev Story++
- Little Nightmares Complete Edition
- Miitopia
- Moji Yuugi
- Resident Evil 4
- Solid Void - Nature Puzzles
- Sports Party
- Streets of Rage 4
- Venture Towns
Now you know Leon's back, be sure to catch up with everything else you may have missed at The Game Awards 2025.
