This PS5 SSD is the perfect solution for your Steam Deck storage woes, actually

Sandisk's new Extreme Portable SSD is a boon not just for PS5 owners, but for handheld gaming PC players with a Steam Deck to hand too.

It doesn't take long to fill up your Steam Deck or Lenovo Legion Go with triple-A games right out of the box, often making it hard to decide what to delete. If you're eager to boost your storage capabilities but don't fancy tinkering with your handheld PC, the Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD may be the answer to your problems.

Sandisk's latest addition to its SSD library features a minimalist PlayStation 5 design, borrowing the console's signature white colorway. However, while the SSD adopts Sony's flagship system's aesthetic, you can easily pair it with portable gaming consoles. If you don't mind keeping it plugged in on the go or factoring it into your desk setup, you can expand your Steam Deck storage to a hefty maximum of 2 TB.

At just 69 grams, it's a lightweight piece of kit that can slot into your carry case or even your pocket. I've lost a few SSDs over the years to unfortunate knocks from having it rattling around in my rucksack, but Sandisk is out to help you on that front, too. The new SSD features IP65 water and dust resistance, and up to 3-meter drop protection, just in case you happen to drop it from such a height.

Let's hope you don't, but there's a five-year warranty included if you need to sort out a replacement. The SSD caters to handheld PC players on other fronts too, with perks like a month of Discord Nitro included. This gives you access to bonuses like HD streaming and server boosts.

Like Sandisk's portable Fortnite SSD, this Extreme iteration is surprisingly small. I've been using the vibrant, Peely-adorned SSD with Steam Deck alternative, the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme, putting it to the test by offloading many of the best Steam Deck games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and FPS game hits like The Finals to save space.

It's a handy method of keeping my gaming library together, especially if you'd rather not tamper with your device to install an internal SSD. When you do need to transfer games back to your handheld console, the good news is that Sandisk's brand-new SSD has sturdy write speeds of up to 1000 MB/s.

The Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD is available for $129.99/£106.99 and $199.99/£158.99 for the 1 TB and 2 TB models, respectively. Should you feel brave and want to get your hands on an internal SSD, check out our WD Black SSN770M SSD review.
