Hello, fellow inklings and octolings – are you excited about the idea of a Splatoon 4 release date? We are too, so we’ve compiled a guide full of our speculation along with any rumors pertaining to the next installation of the inky franchise.
If you’re still living in Inkopolis or thinking of jumping back into the ink, we suggest reading our Splatoon characters guide for a refresher, and then see when the next Splatoon 3 Splatfest is to test your mettle.
Will there be a Splatoon 4?
Nintendo is yet to reveal a Splatoon 4 release date, and there’s currently no official confirmation on if a fourth game is in the works. There are rumors, and it’s generally expected that a new Splatoon might be released on Nintendo’s next console, but this is all speculation.
While some of you may feel it’s a little early for a new Splatoon game, it has – somehow – already been two years since Splatoon 3’s release. Splatoon 2 had its Final Fest that determined the theme of Splatoon 3 two years after release, so it feels like the right time for Splatoon 3’s cycle of support and events to wrap up. In fact, there’s the Grand Festival in September which may determine elements of the next game.
Will Splatoon 4 be on the Switch 2?
At this point, though we don’t have confirmation of a Nintendo Switch 2 yet, it seems as if the next Splatoon game will released on a new generation of consoles. Having both 2 and 3 on the Switch itself was surprising enough. Whether Splatoon 4 releases as soon as the fabled Switch 2 comes out or a little after remains to be seen, given that the original Splatoon came to the Wii U two and a half years after the console released, and even Splatoon 2 joined the Switch roster four months after the console’s release in March 2017.
Are there any Splatoon 4 rumors?
Allegedly, a project titled ‘Spiral’ is in development and is related to Splatoon. The leaker behind this information is Midori, so it’s worth taking this with a grain of salt as there’s some discourse around the validity of their Nintendo leaks. This could also be for a totally different game as the Splatoon team tends to work on Animal Crossing as well, so there’s potential for both.
The next Splatoon game will be one of our most anticipated new Switch games, as we love a multiplayer game on the handheld system.
