Here’s everything you need to know about the Stardew Valley green rain event:

When does the green rain happen in Stardew Valley?

The green rain event arrived with the 1.6 update to Stardew Valley, and it crops up randomly during the summer season. It happens once a year, every year, and can only occur on the 5th, 6th, 7th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 18th, or 23rd of summer.

You can see on the weather forecast when it’s due to happen the next day – the reporter will say that there’s some kind of ‘anomalous reading’ and that they don’t know what this means.

What is the Stardew Valley green rain event?

As the name suggests, during this weather event, the valley turns green. No matter whether you’re indoors or outdoors, your screen has a green hue to it. Once you step outside of your home, you notice it’s raining – and that there’s a LOT of foliage going on. Overnight, trees and weeds take over the town. They don’t spawn on the beach or in the desert, though.

There are three types of trees that appear – two types look vaguely like regular trees and may be covered in moss, whereas the third looks like a giant curled-up plant – or a giant fiddlehead fern. The first two types drop wood and moss, and if you cut the third type down, you get five fiddlehead ferns.

While you may be panicking about clearing away the weeds, they will disappear the next day on their own. But if you need some fiber and moss, you can collect it from the trees and the weeds throughout town to stock up.

During the first year of the event, residents will group together and be quite scared by this anomalous weather, except for Stardew Valley’s Demetrius, who is out there collecting information for science, and Stardew Valley’s Linus, who is also outside. Not too much is different but you can’t purchase anything from Stardew Valley’s Marnie, Stardew Valley’s Robin, or Stardew Valley’s Pierre on this day. From the second year on, some characters still come together in the Saloon, but others continue on with their days.

Also, during the green rain, you can’t use some electronic devices. Your TV won’t work, you can’t use the phone, and the jukebox in the Saloon is also out of service.

We’ve got profiles on all of Pelican Town’s characters – here’s everything you need to know about Stardew Valley’s Gus, Stardew Valley’s Haley, Stardew Valley’s Abigail, and Stardew Valley’s Sam.
