Sam’s birthday falls on Summer 17 each year. If you give him one of his loved gifts, or a stardrop tea, you gain extra friendship with him on his birthday, which can really help if you’re trying to woo him or become his best friend.

What are Sam’s heart events?
Sam gets quite a few heart events, including a four-part event when you reach fourteen hearts with him. You can see how to trigger each event below, but we won’t detail what they are so you can be surprised in the game.

How do I marry Sam in Stardew Valley?
As with all marriage candidates, you need to build up your friendship with Sam before you can think of popping the question. When you reach eight hearts with Sam, you can give him the bouquet item available at Pierre’s store. This shows you’re interested in dating and taking things further.
Continue to gift items to him and build your friendship, then, once you’re at ten hearts of friendship, you can gift him the mermaid’s pendant item to propose marriage. You can buy this from a man on the tide pool area of the beach on rainy days. Soon, you shall be wed. Also, as a bonus, you get a sick half-pipe ramp on the farm once he moves in.
