Thank you Nintendo for reviving my favorite space games from the dead - get ready to launch yourself back into the stars with this port.

Mario Galaxy official art - coming to Switch soon

Super Galaxy fans, we are so back. As part of the Nintendo Mario 40th anniversary celebrations, we'll not only get a new Galaxy movie, but both Super Mario Galaxy games are coming to your Switch on October 2 this year. Yep, that soon.

This comes alongside a slew of Mario games announced as part of Mario's 40th in the September Nintendo Direct. The original Super Mario Galaxy games were available on the Wii console, so it'll be the first platform since the 2000s to feature a Galaxy game. Relive your favorite memories sooner than you can say, 'Rosalina's dress is so cool!'

Previous leaks suggested that a series of Super Mario Bros games would be coming to the Switch, but it seems like the right concept was behind the leak, without the accuracy of knowing which games exactly were involved. Still, we're jazzed to be returning to Honeyhive Galaxy and more!

This game personifies everything about the era I personally grew up in, so I'm excited to say the least. I spent many hours both playing and collecting Star Bits, a satisfying feature that I'd love to return. Mario's 40th birthday being so Galaxy-oriented might indicate further investment in the series - and indeed, if a third Mario Galaxy game comes out, it could use a more involved mechanic for the second player, since even the second Galaxy game's multiplayer features weren't great.
