The Boys series has never shied away from gore, brutality, and just utterly bizarre situations - in fact, that's a massive part of the TV show's DNA at this point. However, the anti-superhero shenanigans of the titular crew as they face up against Vought's various capitalistic egos are action brilliance, one that should translate extremely well to VR when this spin-off comes to Quest 3 next year.
Developed by the show's creators and with voice acting by some of the official cast, The Boys: Trigger Warning puts you into the role of an original character, Lucas Costa, after a traumatic family outing that ends in blood and chaos at the hands of a washed-up family of Vought Superheroes. With Butcher and crew saving Lucas' life, and juicing you up with plenty of powers, you'll help The Boys take on Homelander and the rest of the Vought army of 'heroes'.
While there's not much gameplay to showcase, with a brief reveal trailer giving you glimpses of what to expect - using cool powers, sneaking around, and witnessing Homelander chuck someone out of the skyscraper's window, to name a few - it's very clearly the standard 'The Boys' experience we've come to know and love. Although you're directly involved, so that sounds fun (not sarcasm, I promise).
I'm hoping it quickly becomes one of the best VR games when it launches, and the gameplay does sound fairly interesting, so I have high hopes. Offering stealth action or pure chaos, you can use various powers - such as telekinesis - to take on Vought's forces. Temp V is also a major part, offering hand blades or allowing you to go full Homelander with laser eyes.
Right now, The Boys: Trigger Warning has a broad release date of Spring 2026, and it's coming to Meta Quest 3 (some of the best VR headsets out there right now) and PSVR 2 - sorry PC players. If you're looking to pre-order it, the Quest Store currently has the listing live, with The Boys: Trigger Warning setting you back $23.99 / £18.99, which seems a fair price as far as I'm concerned.
Hopefully, it launches before the new season, so I can get into The Boys spirit before watching it all come to an end. Of course, unless Vought wants to prepare some more spin-off content - that would be nice.
