The Forge quest guide and how to progress fast

A guide to the most important The Forge quests, including tutorial quests, tricky side quests, and tips on how to progress and level up quickly.

The Forge quest - a player character standing in front of the Wizard's Tower holding a pickaxe over her shoulder

The Forge quests are one of the fastest ways to progress through the game, so it's great that there are plenty of them to get through. In this guide, we dive into detail on all of the tutorial quests, along with some of the trickier side quests that can help you get a heap of EXP, badges, and keys that unlock new areas.

Whether you're trying to work out what Sensei Moro wants you to do or having trouble locating the Bard's lost guitar, we're here to help. And, with our top tips on how to progress fast (along with a handful of new The Forge codes), you'll be well on your way to becoming a forge master in no time.

Here's everything in our The Forge quest guide:

All The Forge tutorial quests

When you first start The Forge, there's a series of tutorial quests that you must complete. Each quest is pretty short, but they help you get a solid grip on the game's core mechanics. They also offer some valuable rewards, so it's worth working through them to progress quickly.

Here are all of The Forge's tutorial quests:

The Forge quest - Sensei Moro standing by the forge

Getting Started!

Objective
  • Talk to Sensei Moro
Rewards
  • Stone pickaxe
  • EXP

Tips: you can find Sensei Moro next to the forging station at Stonewake's Cross

First Pickaxe!

Objectives
  • Open 'Equipments'
  • Equip your stone pickaxe
  • Get six ore
Rewards
  • EXP

Tips: once you speak to Sensei Moro, the game guides you to open your inventory and head to your equipment tab to equip the stone pickaxe that he gave you. He then tells you to mine six ore. Simply head to the nearby cave and use your pickaxe to mine six pebbles until they break and give you ore (about four hits each).

Learning to Forge!

Objectives
  • Forge two weapons
Rewards
  • EXP

Tips: head back to the forge where you spoke to Sensei Moro and interact with it. Follow the directions to select three ores and add them to the crucible, then hit 'forge'. After that, you need to participate in a series of minigames.

First, you have to move the pump up and down to melt the ore as fast as possible. Then, you need to keep the arrow within the yellow zone to pour the melted ores into the mold. Next, tap the mold a few times to break it. And, finally, you need to hit the different points on the screen at the right time to assemble your weapon.

You need to do this twice to complete the quest. If you want to know more about forging weapons and all of the different types of weapons in the game, check out our full The Forge weapon guide.

Getting Equipped!

Objectives
  • Equip one of the weapons
  • Sell the other weapon
Rewards
  • EXP

Tips: when you exit the forging screen at the end of the last quest, the game immediately guides you to open your inventory, head to the equipment tab, and equip one of your weapons.

After you've done this, close the equipment screen and approach Marbles, the NPC beneath the crossed swords sign opposite the forge. Talk to him and select option one to open the 'sell crafted weapons' screen, then select the weapon you forged but haven't equipped. Complete the sale to finish the quest.

The Forge quest - Miner Fred at the pickaxe stall

New Pickaxe!

Objectives
  • Purchase a bronze pickaxe
  • Get ten ore
  • Kill one zombie
Rewards
  • EXP

Tips: approach Miner Fred's stall and purchase the bronze pickaxe for $150. Then, head to the cave and use your new pickaxe to mine rocks and pebbles until you have ten ore. With your bronze pickaxe, rocks should take seven hits and give you one to two ores when they break.

After that, you need to switch to your weapon and kill one zombie. Be careful, though, as there are quite a few zombies around, and they might start attacking you as you mine! Also, while you can kill them with your pickaxe, it doesn't count towards the quest unless you kill one with your weapon.

Preparing for Battle!

Objectives
  • Forge two armors to improve your defense
Rewards
  • EXP

Tips: head back to the forge and open the forging menu, then follow the tutorial to select the armor category. After that, select at least three ore and hit 'forge'. You then need to complete the same minigames as when you forged your weapons. Do this twice to forge two armor pieces and complete the quest.

If you want to learn more about the different armor types in the game and how to forge them, check out our full The Forge armor guide.

Forging Under Pressure

Objectives
  • Purchase an iron pickaxe
  • Kill three zombies
  • Forge any three items
  • Get 35 ore
Rewards
  • EXP

Tips: we recommend grabbing the iron pickaxe from Miner Fred's stall first, but you might not have enough ores to forge three more items just yet. Your iron pickaxe still isn't strong enough to break bigger boulders, but it does break pebbles and rocks much quicker.

Just be careful when you're in the caves, as zombies can spawn with higher levels than you, especially as you go deeper inside. And, as we mentioned earlier, it can be easy for them to overwhelm you if you don't pay attention to your surroundings as you mine.

Reporting in

Objective
  • Talk to Sensei Moro
Rewards
  • Small and large essences
  • EXP

Tips: head back to the forge to speak to Sensei Moro and report your progress

The First Upgrade

Objectives
  • Enhance any item to +3
Rewards
  • Runes
  • EXP

Tips: go to the enhancer shop opposite the forge and to the left of Marbles' weapons shop and talk to the enhancer. Here, you must select the piece of equipment you'd like to enhance - we recommend going with the piece with the highest stats. Follow the tutorial to enhance the piece three times and complete the quest.

The Forge quest - the Runemaker in his shop

Runes of Power

Objectives
  • Attach a rune to any equipment
Rewards
  • EXP

Tips: head to the runemaker opposite the enhancer shop and talk to him. Select a piece of equipment (we only had the option to select the light leggings we enhanced in the previous quest), then follow the tutorial to attach a rune to it, completing the quest.

If you're curious about the rune system beyond what's shown in this tutorial quest, we've got a full The Forge runes guide that breaks everything down for you, and also ranks all the best runes in the game.

End of the Beginning

Objectives
  • Talk to Sensei Moro
Rewards
  • EXP

Tips: return to Sensei Moro next to the forge, where he congratulates you on your progress and tells you where to go next

Everything Starts Now

Objectives
  • Talk to the Wizard
Rewards
  • Portal tool
  • EXP

Tips: follow the quest marker to head to the Wizard's Tower up the hill between Marbles' weapon shop and the cave, then talk to the Wizard inside (you can run right through the doors). He'll give you a portal tool that you can use to teleport to the Forgotten Kingdom.

This marks the end of the tutorial quests, which should give you a good grasp on the game. After that, you need to reach level ten before you can use the portal tool to head to the next location on the Forge's map, the Forgotten Kingdom, where you can start the next series of quests.

Other The Forge quests

After you get through the tutorial, there are plenty of main quests for you to progress through, but they're pretty straightforward.

There are also several major side quests in the game that offer a bunch of EXP and rewards, but some can be a little tricky to complete, especially if you don't even know where to start. But don't worry, we've put together this handy The Forge quest list to help you out.

The Forge quest - the Bard after you return his guitar to him in the Lost Guitar quest

The Forge the Lost Guitar quest

Quest start Talk to the Bard
Objectives
  • Find the Bard's lost guitar
Rewards
  • The unknown key
  • Guitar Finder badge
  • EXP

Tips: you can find the bard sitting by the fire next to Maria's potions shop in Stonewake's Cross. When you talk to him, he tells you that he's lost his guitar and needs help finding it. Lucky for you, it's not too far - but it is a little tricky to find.

The guitar is in a secret cave inside the Stonewake mine. To get to it, you need to enter the entrance with 'The Cave' written above it, and stick to the left wall. At the bottom of the ramp, there's a brown patch of dirt with some grass behind it. Walk against the wall there, and you'll fall through the map into the secret cave. You can find the guitar on a ledge next to a skeleton.

When you return the guitar to the Bard, on top of your EXP and the Guitar Finder badge, you also get the unknown key. You can use this key to enter a locked gate in The Cave mine, which gives you access to the Fallen Angel's Cave.

Here, you can find the Arcane Pickaxe, which you can then purchase for $125k. If you're wondering whether the Arcane Pickaxe is worth your money and what other pickaxes are on the market, check out our full The Forge pickaxe guide.

The Forge Quests - the Goblin King on his throne

The Forge Goblin King quest

Quest start Talk to the Goblin King
Objectives
  • Bring $5k to the Goblin King
  • Bring $10k and three topaz to the Goblin King
  • Bring $15k and five diamonds to the Goblin King
  • Bring $20k and five emeralds to the Goblin King
  • Bring $25k and five rubies to the Goblin King
Rewards
  • The key to the Goblin Cave
  • XP

Tips: in order to start the quest, you need to complete all of the tutorial quests and reach level ten, then use the portal tool that the Wizard gave you to go to the Forgotten Kingdom.

When you get there, you need to follow the path through town and take a left when you get to the forge, then continue on until you see two goblins holding axes in front of the entrance to a camp. Walk between them and continue on until you find the Goblin King.

The Goblin King asks for five rounds of items, as listed in the objectives above. Each time you bring him the items he requests, he asks you for the next, requiring rarer ores and more gold.

If you need help finding the ores you need for this quest, you can check out our full The Forge ore guide. We've also got a guide to The Forge money with tips on how to rake it in quickly. But even with our help, this quest will still take quite a while to complete. So, if you value your sanity, don't try to rush through it in one day.

After you complete the quest, you get a bunch of XP. You can also grab the key to the goblin cave on the Goblin King's throne. Use this on the locked door to the right of the throne to enter the goblin cave. This is required to complete the next quest, where you need to find Tomo's lost cat.

The Forge quest - Tomo the Explorist asking for help in the Lost Cat quest

The Forge Tomo's Lost Cat quest

Quest start Talk to Tomo the Explorist
Objectives
  • Find Tomo's cat
Rewards
  • Cat Lover title
  • XP

Tips: You need to complete the Goblin King's quest and claim the key to the goblin cave before you can complete this quest. Once you've done that, you can find Tomo the Explorist next to Stonwake's Cross cave entrance (just up the hill towards the Wizard's Tower).

After this, you can use your portal tool to teleport to the Forgotten Kingdom, then head to the goblin cave at the back of the goblin camp, where Tomo's cat is hiding. For more details on this quest and where exactly you can find this fuzzy little friend, check out our full guide to The Forge's cat location.

The Forge quest - Monke sitting behind a rock surrounded by coconuts and bananas

The Forge Monkey quest

Quest start Talk to Monke
Objective
  • Bring Monke bananite
Rewards
  • XP
  • Gold
  • Monkey Business badge

Tips: you can find Monke sitting behind a rock on a small island off the coast of Forgotten Kingdom, where he'll ask you to bring him different amounts of bananite ore. You can choose however much you want to give him - the higher the amount, the more gold and XP you get upon completing the quest.

You can get bananite ore as an uncommon drop (1/30) from Stonewake's Cross. All you need to do is give him the required amount of ore to complete the quest.

The Forge quest - Isaac sitting under a tent

The Forge Cure for Isaac

Quest start Talk to Isaac
Objective
  • Bring Isaac a health potion
Rewards
  • Cure for Isaac badge
  • EXP

Tips: you can find Isaac sitting in a small camp outside the Ruined Cave in the Forgotten Kingdom, sitting in a small tent. Of course, this means that you have to finish the tutorial quests and get to level ten before you can start this quest.

Isaac asks you for a health potion, and you need to specifically give him a Health Potion I, as he'll reject anything else. You can purchase a Health Potion I from Maria at the potions shop in Stonewake's Cross for $150.

The Forge quest NPCs

Aside from the quests listed above, you can also pick up a few other quests from different NPCs located at different points on The Forge's map.

Here's where to find the different The Forge quest NPCs and what quests they offer:

The Forge quest NPC Sensei Moro

Sensei Moro

Location Next to the forge in Stonewake's Cross and the Forgotten Kingdom
Quests Tutorial, main, and ore-related quests
Rewards XP

Tips: outside of the first few tutorial quests, you can continue to pick up main quests and ore-related quests from Sensei Moro. He's always located next to the Forge, both in Stonewake's Cross and the Forgotten Kingdom, so he's easy to find, too!

The Forge quest NPC Umut the Brave

Umut the Brave

Location Inside The Cave mine at Stonewake's Cross
Quests
  • Rotten Depths: kill three zombies then report back to Umut the Brave
  • Rotten Depths: kill eight zombies then report back to Umut the Brave (recurring quest)
Rewards
  • Cash
  • XP

Tips: you can find Umut the Brave at the bottom of the ramp when you enter The Cave at Stonewake's Cross. The first time you accept the Rotten Depths quest from him, he only asks you to kill three zombies. After that, the number increases to eight zombies.

You can complete this quest as many times as you want, so it's a great way to earn some extra XP and cash. However, keep in mind that only regular zombies count, not delver zombies, elite zombies, or any other variation.

The Forge quest NPC Nord

Nord

Location Inside The Cave mine at Stonewake's Cross
Quests
    • The Basics of Mining: mine four stone, five sand stone, and five copper (recurring quest)
Rewards
  • XP

Tips: you can find Nord at the bottom of the ramp when you enter The Cave at Stonewake's Cross, to the right of Umut the Brave. Simply talk to him to pick up the quest, then go gather the ore - you don't even need to bring it back to him. You can complete this quest as many times as you want, and the ores he requests are very common, so it's an easy way to gain extra XP passively.

The Forge quest NPC Barakkulf

Barakkuulf

Location The forge in the Forgotten Kingdom
Quests
  • Basalt Extraction: mine 150 basalt rock and 50 basalt core
Rewards
  • Cash
  • XP

Tips: you can find Barakuulf in the Forgotten Kingdom's forge, just behind Sensei Moro. Ask him "do you need something?" to trigger the quest dialog. Basalt rocks and basalt cores aren't specific ores, but the rocks that you mine from in the Forgotten Kingdom (like pebbles and rocks in The Cave at Stonewake's Cross), so it's not as tricky as it sounds.

Like Nord and Umut's quests, you can complete this quest as many times as you want, and you don't need to give the ore to Barakkuulf, so it's another great way to passively pick up additional XP and cash as you play.

The Forge quest NPC Captain Rowan

Captain Rowan

Location In the camp outside the Forgotten Kingdom's Ruined Cave
Quests Main quests related to defeating undead enemies
Rewards
  • Cash
  • XP

Tips: when you first arrive to the Forgotten Kingdom and talk to Sensei Moro, he sends you to talk to Captain Rowan in the camp outside the Ruined Cave, so you can follow the main quest marker arrows to find your way.

After that, he gives you several quests related to killing various undead enemies, starting with ten skeleton rogues. Be careful if you try to take on this quest as soon as you're level ten, as the enemies in the Ruined Cave can spawn at quite high levels - even the skeleton rogues at the entrance can be pretty tough! So it's a good idea to go in with some decent equipment (and maybe a couple of potions if you want to hang around and mine for a while).

The Forge quest NPC, the Masked Stranger

Masked Stranger

Location Outside the Ruined Cave in the Forgotten Kingdom
Quests
  • Skeletal Threat: kill 50 skeleton rogues, 30 axe skeletons, 15 deathaxe skeletons, and five bombers (recurring)
Rewards
  • Cash
  • XP

Tips: the Masked Stranger is pretty easy to spot, as he's standing to the right of the entrance to the Ruined Cave, leaning against a lamppost next to the purchasable simple lantern. Talk to him to pick up the quest.

The Skeletal Threat quest is essentially a tougher version of Umut the Brave's Rotten Depths quests, tasking you with killing a much larger number of enemies that spawn in the Ruined Cave. However, it's also a recurring quest that you can do as many times as you like, and gives a hefty chunk of XP.

We recommend picking it up as soon as you get to the camp with Captain Rowan, then picking it up again each time you complete it. But we advice against focusing on it as a main priority unless you're hellbent on grinding, as you'll likely rack up kills passively as you mine and embark on other quests in the cave.

The Forge quest NPC Line

Line

Location Up the ramp to the right of spawn point in The Forgotten Kingdom
Quest
  • Line's Needs: bring three fireite to Line
Rewards
  • Cash
  • XP

Tips: when you spawn in The Forgotten Kingdom, walk up the ramp to your right to find Line working on a cliff opposite a small shack. Talk to him and pick a dialog option (these appear to change based on your race) and he'll ask you to retrieve three fireite ore for him from a secret cave.

You can find fireite ore by heading to the Volcanic Depths in the Ruined Cave. However, in order to mine the volcanic rocks that give fireite, you first need a pickaxe with at least 100 base damage. We also highly recommend getting some good gear before heading this deep into the Ruined Cave, as there are quite a few dangerous enemies down there.

Each time you break a volcanic rock, you only have a one in 2,187 chance to get a piece of fireite ore - this, of course, means that it's incredibly rare and it's quite tough to get three. To make this process a bit easier, you can use luck potions, luck boosting skills, miner shard runes for your pickaxe, luck boosting races, and luck totems.

But, even with these buffs, it can still take quite a while, and fireite ore is very valuable when it comes to forging weapons and armor, so we only recommend completing this quest if you happen to have extra fireite ore to spare!

The Forge quest NPC Amber

Amber

Location Inside the Ruined Cave in the Forgotten Kingdom
Quest
  • Elite Threat: kill 30 elite rogue skeletons, 15 elite deathaxe skeletons, ten blazing slimes, and five reapers
Reward
  • Cash
  • XP

Tips: to find Amber, enter the Ruined Cave from either entrance, head north until you hit a wall, then turn left to walk up a ramp. Go forward into the next area, and you'll see her standing next to the magma pickaxe. Talk to her to start the quest.

The enemies she asks you to kill are all elites, so they're very strong. Only attempt this quest when you're a high level and have some good equipment, and be sure to bring plenty of potions.

Skal

Location In The Ruined Cave's Volcanic Depths in the Forgotten Kingdom
Quest
  • Demonite Key: bring Skal three demonites
Reward
  • Demonite Key
  • XP

Tips: you need to complete this quest in order to get the Demonite Key, which opens the room where you can purchase the Demonic Pickaxe. You can find him in the Ruined Cave's Volcanic Depths, which you get to by dropping down the hole next to Amber and breaking the volcanic rocks there. However, once inside, there are a lot of elite enemies, so make sure to come prepared.

Skal asks for three demonite ore in exchange for the Demonite Key. Demonite is a mythic ore that you can get from mining volcanic rocks, which means you need a pickaxe with at least 100 mining power. For every volcanic rock you break, you have a one in 3,666 chance to get one demonite ore, so we highly recommend using as many luck-boosting items and equipment as you can. Good luck!

The Forge fast progression tips

If you want to progress fast in The Forge, we recommend starting off with the tutorial quests and getting through those as quickly as possible, as they offer a decent amount of EXP and also reward you with some useful tools while teaching you the ropes.

After this, we recommend doing the Lost Guitar Quest early on, as it's very easy and offers a lot of EXP for the small amount of effort you need to put in. Plus, even though you likely won't have enough money to buy the Arcane Pickaxe just yet, it's a great tool to unlock early in the game. You can also repeatedly complete Umut the Brave and Nord's quests for additional cash and XP as many times as you want.

Once you reach level ten and complete the tutorial quests, we recommend picking up a Health Potion I from Maria at the potions shop in Stonewake's Cross before using your portal tool to teleport to the Forgotten Kingdom. Then, when you speak to Sensei Moro at the Forgotten Kingdom's forge, he will send you to talk to Captain Rowan.

As Isaac is right next to Captain Rowan, you can easily complete the Cure for Isaac quest without having to teleport back to Stonewake's Cross to get the potion, then running all the way back to Isaac's tent. This gives you another hefty chunk of EXP with very little effort!

Other than that, we recommend picking up any quests you come across, as a lot of them are pretty easy to complete passively, and it will help you keep track of what ore you need to save for quests, and which ones you can use to forge items.

Quests are a great way to get XP fast, but you also gain a lot of experience by mining, fighting, forging, and upgrading your gear - plus, you'll also earn a heap of money along the way, which can help you get better gear and items to make everything even easier for you. If you need a little extra help with this, you can check out our The Forge tier list to work out which races, pickaxes, and weapons are the best, and which ones you can sell right away.
