Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's Metacritic score makes it the highest-rated game of the year so far, with the Nintendo Switch title seeming a certified cracker.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s Metacritic score of 96 out of 100 marks it as the highest-rated game of the year so far. Over on OpenCritic, meanwhile, it’s the highest-rated game ever on the site, with a score of 97 putting it ahead of Super Mario Odyssey in second place.

Reviews are pretty glowing across the board. Our Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom review calls it “a heritage fashion house and a Swiss watchmaker working together on a spinning bow tie.” We promise that’s a compliment.

The game, which is playable on the best Nintendo Switch consoles, features a bunch of new powers, with Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom fusion power letting you combine items with weapons in what seems like countless combinations. There are also a load of new Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom enemies, improving on one of the major criticisms of the game’s predecessor, Breath of the Wild.
