She came, she saw, she crashed – ZZZ Caesar is the fearsome leader of Sons of Calydon, and will protect you with her sword and shield. She’s an S-rank character introduced in the Outer Ring, where she rules with an iron fist – figuratively, she’s actually really nice. In teams, she provides buffs and shields and can deal some real damage.

Here’s everything in our ZZZ Caesar build guide:
What is the best Zenless Zone Zero Caesar build?
Caesar is an S-rank character who uses the physical element and is a defense character.
Best W-Engine | Tusks of Fury |
Best drive discs | Four-piece – Proto Punk Two-piece – Freedom Blues |
Main stats | -Crit rate/damage or attack -Physical damage -Impact |
Sub-stats | Crit rate/damage, attack, anomaly proficiency, impact |
The best build for Caesar includes her signature w-engine, Tusks of Fury, and a set of Proto Punk drive discs, mixed with a two-piece set of Freedom Blues. Focus on crit and attack stats, and a physical damage-boosting piece for best results.
Caesar not only provides shields for your active character, but can parry and mitigate incoming damage, and provide damage boosts across your team. She’s an excellent support unit that can protect you and dish out plenty of damage at the same time.
When building her up, we recommend focusing on her core skill – you can get up to 1,000 attack as a boost for your entire team this way, so the higher you get it, the better her support will be. This also improves her shield strength, meaning you can choose damage-boosting disc drives like Fanged Metal and Woodpecker Electro instead.
We have found already that even without a set of shield effect discs, Caesar keeps our team nice and safe – so we’re testing a build with attack, physical damage, and anomaly-boosting drive disc sets to see how far we can push her personal damage.
How do I use Caesar?
The best thing to do with Caesar is to use her special attack and EX special attack to block enemies’ attacks and then attack them with her normal skill. You can hold both of these to activate different moves, too.
In terms of granting a shield to your team, using Caesar’s EX special, chain attack, and ultimate gives the active teammate a shield along with an attack buff, so you’re going to be protected most of the time. This transfers if you swap to a new character, too. You can see when you have a shield – it appears as a yellow meter to the right of your active character. Using her EX special activates this, and then can fill it back up.
Caesar, generally, is a really good all-around unit. She can deal a lot of damage with her regular attacks along with inflicting fairly heavy assault, while keeping everyone safe and buffing the team.
What are the best w-engines for ZZZ Caesar?
Caesar’s S-rank signature weapon, Tusks of Fury, fits her kit very well and adds a team-wide damage buff along with extra shield strength. This is her best weapon.
As Caesar is a defense character, her options for w-engines are a little limited. She likes a stacked impact stat, and outside of her signature S-rank w-engine, the only option to add to this is the Original Transmorpher. However, the main stat on this is HP. For now, we recommend Seth’s Peacekeeper A-rank w-engine, or the Spring Embrace for alternatives.
W-engine | Skill | How to obtain |
Tusks of Fury (S-rank) | Bonus stat: Increases impact Effect: The shield value given by Caesar increases. When any squad member triggers interrupt or a perfect dodge, the entire squad’s damage and daze increases for 20 seconds. Repeated triggers reset the duration and effects do not stack |
W-engine banner (alongside Caesar) |
Peacekeeper (A-rank) | Bonus stat: Increases attack Effect: While shielded, Caesar’s energy regen increases by 0.4% per second. The anomaly buildup of her EX special attacks and assist follow-ups also increases |
All banners |
Spring Embrace (A-rank) | Bonus stat: Increases attack Effect: Reduces the damage taken by Caesar. When she gets attacked, her energy regen rate increases for 12 seconds. When she switches off-field, this buff transfers to the new on-field character with a refreshed duration |
New Eridu City Fund – battle pass |
What are the best drive discs for Caesar?
A new drive disc set releases alongside Caesar, adding to shield strength and buffing team-wide damage. It seems as if this is the bet set for Caesar. You can mix this with a two-piece set of Shockstar Disco – to improve her impact stat – or Fanged Metal to add purely to her physical damage.
If you want Caesar as more of a support unit with less DPS capabilities, you can use a full set of Freedom Blues to up the team’s anomaly damage, or Swing Jazz to improve chain attack and ultimate damage.
Drive disc set | Effect |
Proto Punk | Two-piece set: Increases shield effect 15% Four-piece set: When any squad member triggers a defensive or evasive assist, all squad members deal 15% increased damage for ten seconds. This does not stack |
Freedom Blues | Two piece set: Increases anomaly proficiency Four-piece set: When an EX special attack hits an enemy, it reduces the targets anomaly buildup resistance to physical damage by 20%, lasting eight seconds. This effect does not stack with others of the same attribute |
Shockstar Disco | Two-piece set: Increases impact by 6% Four-piece set: Basic attacks, dash attacks, and dodge counters inflict 20% more daze on the main target |
Fanged Metal | Two-piece set: Increases physical damage by 10% Four-piece set: When a teammate inflicts assault on an enemy, Caesar deals 35% additional damage to the target for 12 seconds |
Swing Jazz | Two-piece set: Increases energy regen by 20%. Four-piece set: Launching a chain attack or ultimate increases all squad members’ damage by 15% for 12 seconds. Passive effects of the same name do not stack |

What is the best ZZZ Caesar team comp?
Caesar provides shields and damage bonuses no matter what team she’s in, but pairing her with characters of the same faction or those that can perform defensive assists will unlock even more boosts. We’ve found great success already pairing her with Jane Doe, especially with either Seth or Lucy as the third squad member.
During the story, you can test Caesar with Burnice, and they work incredibly well together – this is something to keep in mind when she releases.
If you use Caesar in a team with Lucy, make sure your DPS is after Lucy in the lineup so they can take advantage of Lucy’s buff. Similarly, if you use her with Jane and Seth, make sure Seth is after Jane so she can properly use his buff, which swaps backward.

What are ZZZ Caesar’s skills?
Here are all the handy skills in Caesar’s kit, including which moves activate a shield and which give a buff.
Attacks:
Skill | Effect |
Basic attack – Rampaging Slash | Caesar unleashes up to six slashes in front of her, dealing physical damage to enemies |
Basic attack – Dead End | When Caesar has enough Assist Points, hold basic attack to consume one Assist Point and throws her shield to attack enemies in all directions, dealing physical damage. Caesar is invulnerable during this attack |
Special attack – Shockwave Shield Bash | Caesar strikes forward with her shield, dealing physical damage. If she gets hit by an enemy at the beginning of the skill, it triggers a perfect block – this negates one instance of damage and follows up with Roaring Thrust. After using this skill, Caesar enters a guard stance, reducing incoming damage by 40%. When getting attacked, she can block with her shield. Pressing the special attack button again activates Retaliation and either Roaring Thrust or Overpowered Shield Bash. She is invulnerable during this skill |
Special attack – Roaring Thrust | After activating Shockwave Shield Bash, press the special attack again to deal physical damage once more. If perfect block or Retaliation does not trigger, Caesar’s anti-interrupt increases during this skill. She is invulnerable during this skill |
EX special attack – Parry Counter | Caesar strikes forward with her shield, dealing physical damage to enemies. If she gets hit by an enemy at the beginning of the skill, or triggers Interrupt, it triggers a perfect block. Caesar counters incoming damage with a hit and does not take damage. After triggering a perfect block, use her EX special to activate Overpowered Shield Bash. Caesar then enters a guard stance, reducing incoming damage by 40%. She blocks attacks from enemies as well. Hit special attack to perform Retaliation along with either Roaring Thrust or Overpowered Shield Bash. She is invulnerable during this skill |
EX special attack – Overpowered Shield Bash | After activating Parry Counter, Caesar can strike forward with her shield dealing huge physical damage to enemies nearby. If Caesar gets hit at the beginning of this move, or she triggers Interrupt, it triggers a perfect block. This negates incoming damage one time. When the skill activates through Retaliation or perfect block, it can’t trigger the block again. She is invulnerable during this skill |
Stance Switch | When Caesar triggers a perfect block, Retaliation, or defensive assist, her impact increases for three seconds |
Ultimate – Savage Smash | Activating Caesar’s ultimate sees her throw her shield at enemies and unleash a spin attack, dealing massive physical damage. When hitting enemies with a shield, the daze she inflicts increases. She is invulnerable during this skill |
Dodges:
Skill | Effect |
Dodge – Adrift | Caesar quickly dodges an attack. She is invulnerable during this skill |
Dash attack – Hog Rush | Using a basic attack during a dodge sees Caesar strike forward with her shield, dealing physical damage. During this, any damage taken reduces by 40%, and if Caesar gets attacked, she blocks with her shield. Press the special attack to trigger Retaliation and activate either special attack Roaring Thrust or Overpowered Shield Bash |
Dodge counter – Eye For an Eye | Using a basic attack during a perfect dodge sees Caesar hit enemies in front, dealing physical damage. She is invulnerable during this skill |
Combo attacks:
Skill | Effect |
Quick assist – Lane Charge | If an on field character gets launched, press the assist button to swap to Caesar and deal physical damage to enemies in front. She is invulnerable during this skill |
Defensive assist – Aigis Shield | If an on field character is about to get attacked, press the assist button to swap to Caesar and parry the attack. This deals massive daze. This skill reduces the consumption of Assist Points. She is invulnerable during this skill |
Assist follow-up – Aiding Blade | After a defensive attack, use Caesar’s basic attack to throw her shield at enemies dealing physical damage. After using this, hit the special attack to trigger Retaliation, which then performs either Roaring Thrust or Overpowered Shield Bash. She is invulnerable during this skill |
Chain attack – Road Rage Slam | Swapping to Caesar during a chain attack unleashes a powerful downward strike at enemies, dealing huge physical damage. She is invulnerable during this skill |
Passive skills:
Skill | Effect |
Core passive – Barrier of Resilience | When Caesar activates her EX special attack (Parry Counter), chain attack, ultimate, or triggers EX special attack (Overpowered Shield Bash), gives a buff to all teammates along with a shield. The shield lasts 60 seconds and appears on the on-field character, with value shared among the team. Any single damage instance will not exceed the shield value. While Radiant Aegis is active, the shield bearer’s attack stat increases and the buff remains for five seconds after Radiant Aegis expires |
Additional ability – Battle Spirit | When another character in your team can activate a defensive assist or is part of the Sons of Calydon: When Caesar activates a perfect block, retaliation, defensive assist, or basic attack (Dead End), she applies a debuff to enemies within range, which increases the damage they take by 25% for 30 seconds |

Who is Caesar King?
Caesar, leader of the Sons of Calydon biker gang, rules the Outer Ring. We first saw her in the pre-release trailer showing the entire Calydon gang including Zenless Zone Zero’s Piper, Lighter, Burnice, and Lucy alongside Caesar.
Interestingly, in her introduction, a quote from Billy calls her ‘big sis’. There are hints in the game already that Billy used to roll with the Sons, as he previously rode a bike, lived in a truck, and has a pig on the back of his jacket. Caesar’s introduction to the game could result in some fun backstory for him, and a good teammate, too.
Want to build some teammates for Caesar? We recommend Zenless Zone Zero’s Lucy, Zenless Zone Zero’s Billy, and Zenless Zone Zero’s Lighter to capitalize on her passives.
