Nintendo recently announced that Charles Martinet – the longtime voice of Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and more – is stepping down from the iconic role and moving into the position of “Mario ambassador.” Well, today the company gave a bit more clarity in a Charles Martinet special video message. If you want to hear more of his iconic voice, be sure to check out the best Mario games.

Voice actor Charles Martinet addresses fans around the world in the video message and thanks them for their support over the years. It wouldn’t be a Charles Martinet appearance without a few of his iconic lines, and he happily performs the occasional “wahoo” or “let’s-a-go” through. It’s a touching and bittersweet reminder of everything Charles brought to the role over so many years of work.

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto also makes an appearance, thanking Martinet for his hard work on the series, and reflecting on their “long journey” together. He also mentions Charles’ imposing stature, laughing when reminiscing about a time Charles hit his head on a ceiling in a Kyoto cafe. While Miyamoto doesn’t reveal anything about the new voice cast, we don’t have long to wait until the Super Mario Bros. Wonder release date, when fans will learn who is the new voice of the mustachioed marvel.
