Dead Cells whips up a storm with a Castlevania collaboration

The Belmonts are back in action, as Motion Twin and Konami have come together for the Dead Cells Return to Castlevania collaboration

Dead Cells Return to Castlevania DLC: key art for the game Dead Cells shows the undead protagonist performing an attack beside Alucard and Richter Belmont from the Castlevania series

Classic Metroidvania fans rejoice, as while it felt like Dead Cells couldn’t possibly give us any more, a surprise announcement at The Game Awards 2022 has shown that Motion Twin still has one huge trick up it’s sleeve. In a collaboration with Konami, Motion Twin has announced the Dead Cells Return to Castlevania DLC, bringing over the classic series to the action roguelike next year.

While the reveal trailer didn’t reveal too much, it gives players a glimpse at the iconic characters Richter Belmont and Alucard meeting the flame-headed hero of Dead Cells, before facing off against the one and only Dracula himself. Dead Cells has always been open about its Castlevania influence, so this is a full-circle moment for the much-revered action title.

Considering the depth of previous collabs with Hollow Knight and Shovel Knight, fans can likely expect this one to be substantial. While we’ll have to wait until Q1 2023 for more details, here’s hoping we can explore the many cavernous castles of Dead Cells with our favourite whip-wielding heroes of old. As huge fans of Dead Cells and Castlevania, this surprise announcement is off the Richter scale for us.
